Trump getting Washington military parade _ but no tanks

WASHINGTON (AP) — It looks like President Donald Trump is getting the military parade he wants in Washington — though he may get no tanks for the effort.

A Pentagon planning memo issued Thursday and released Friday says the parade being planned for Nov. 11, Veterans Day, will “include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks — consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure.” Big, heavy tanks could tear up District of Columbia streets.

But the event will “include a heavy air component at the end of the parade,” meaning lots of airplane flyovers. Older aircraft will be included as available.

The army and the air force have all the fun. I demand a frigate in the parade! On rollers. Pulled by Democrats in chains.

LOVE the scene when they bought the Tiger from the German officer, and Gavin McLeod said “It’s a Piece O’ Junk! There’s gasoline EVERYWHERE!”

Great flick, one of my favorites.

Back in 1991 I saw the 1st Batallion of the 1st Marine Regiment march down Broadway in San Diego. They did not have tanks, but just the sight of the regimental flag with all of those battle streamers made my heart skip a beat.

When I graduated from high school in SW Oklahoma I went to a firepower demonstration at Fort Sill. It included artillery, armor and airpower delivery of live ordnance.

That type of demo will leave no doubt in anyone's mind that it was serious hardware meant to kill people and break things.

Not negative. The U.S. government has paid big league dollars to other countries over the decades where our track armor had a tendency to tear up their roads and infrastructure.☺

A battleship would really tear up the pavement, but I wouldn’t mind a PT boat in the Reflecting Pool.

Back in the 50’s the Army National Guard had a tank in a University of Florida Homecoming Parade. My uncle drove it. I don’t believe it tore up the road.

Oh, I get it, for sure. Treads are gonna do what treads do... and it isn’t pretty on the road surface.

Kelly’s Heroes just popped into my head when I heard “tanks”...

Ask yourself, why?
God bless our brave men & women in uniform.

Just paint Joy Behar green and brown.

Her schnoz is big enough to be a cannon.

“Between November 1990 and January 1991, 4th Tank Battalion was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Elements of the battalion were “in country” and combat ready within 32 days of activation. During the Gulf War mobilization, the 4th Tank Battalion, a United States Marine Corps Reserve unit in the 4th Marine Division, successfully transitioned from the M-60 to the M1-A1 Main Battle Tank in just 45 days. The battalion trained, shot and qualified, then deployed to the Gulf where it fought alongside its active Marine Corps counterparts. Indeed, one of its companies knocked out 35 of 36 Iraqi tanks in less than five minutes.”

As someone who has built a “tank road”for tactical vehicle maintenance and access to program areas for tracked equipment, the issue is flexible paving (asphaltic concrete) will tear up from the turning action and every slight maneuver.

The two and half miles that I built for this purpose was solid concrete placed in thicknesses to take the weight.

I remember that Barron Trump really enjoyed the big trucks on Inauguration Day parade. Maybe his dad is doing this for him:)

Growing up near Pt Mugu, I hope the Blue Angels make an appearance.

That would have been a leftover Ww2 Sherman or Pershing at the heaviest - about 46 short tons weight. About what a good old long average semi weighs.

The M1A2 SEP V3 is *over* 70 short tons. The heaviest regular semi legally allowed on US highways is only 53 tons and there are places it is not allowed for fear it will destroy the roads and bridges.
