This book, probably doesn’t tell us much more than we would expect, has gotten a lot of press. Not only a splash when first published, but the libs revive it from time to time. I don’t think this is the first time it has been featured here on FR, either.

Yup! Spent their money on “Nice to have” items —— Boats, water skiedoos, etc.
I asked my former neighbors -—— “Saving anything for the future” Ans: “Naa, we’ll have SA and a pension.”
Sure! I believe that they are living in a van in New Mexico.

“Another story about people making poor life choices.”

Many of whom are spoiled Baby Boomers who fell on bad luck once their parents weren’t around to bail them out. But it’s those terrible Millennials that are causing all of the problems...

I didn’t really get that from the article. The recession hit some of them really hard.

I would think if you’re working for Amazon’s Camperforce, your future is not exactly unstable...that’s a whole lot different from working a year or two in a non-tenure track professorship, then scrambling around for another one.

This quote doesn’t sound right at all:

You write that sometimes the Nomads are exploited. How?

I filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Forest Service and learned that some of their workers aren’t getting paid for all their hours. They weren’t allowed to invoice.

Hmm...if they’re actual Forest Service employees (even part-time temporary), they submit timesheets.

Maybe by “invoice” she means getting “actual expenses” instead of “per diem?” Well, gee, the agency doesn’t want the employee in travel status to stay at a luxury hotel when a budget motel is available. That’s not the same thing as not getting paid for hours worked.

Maybe she means “noncreditable travel time?” Some is creditable, some is noncreditable.

The other possibility is that they aren’t actual Forest Service employees but they work for a contractor.

Another story about people making poor life choices.

This is an elitist book, written by an elitist woman, for the elites, to tell everyone how bad it is for the seniors living in what they believe is abject poverty.
If one is an avid camper you will meet those who do this not because they have to, but because they want to. I know friends who have been all over the country working small jobs to pay their way. Picking fruit, doing odd jobs to park their camper for free and make a few bucks along the way. Once again the liberal has gone and cherry picked a few who do this because they have to not because they want to.

After reading the article I agree somewhat with our post. The article is filled mostly with Amazon-hating liberal dogma. Some of us seniors however are over the whole buy, buy, buy, more, more, more, lifestyle and are looking to return to the “nomad” lifestyle we enjoyed in the 60’s& 70’s.
