Yes, this.
Part of what Rush Limbaugh said this week got it right but only part.
Rush kept saying everyone knew that Trump wanted tariffs so why are they surprised? He ran on it.
But on this Rush was wrong! Trump ran on getting bad trade deals—ones that exploited this country and were inherently unfair—fixed. Tariffs are just a tool to make that happen. Trump didn’t run on tariffs—he ran on fair trade, with tariffs if that’s what it takes to GET fair trade.
Now, the rest of what he said was absolutely true, and the compromise on NAFTA is the end result of wielding the tariff weapon.
My opinion is that past presidents have been globalists to such a degree they saw the tariff weapon as the DESTROYER of global trade, not something we can use to move it forward.
Anyways, we should all note what Trump is doing here, and it’s not to just get tariffs in place to protect steel workers, but get a fairer trade going so our great, American-made steel competes on a level playing field, which helps American steel workers.
Speaking of tariffs, let me state right now that I know little about them. I suspect most Americans, busy carrying this country on its back, know little about them as well.
But President Trump said something last week that hit home, even to small-trade-knowledge me.
For I did, back in the day, work at Western Electric, the manufacturing of mighty AT&T in the day. Western Electric was located about two miles from the Sparrows Point steel mill. And, as an aside, within walking distance of General Motors. All gone from mighty Baltimore as the thugs take over.
Anyway, the steel mill was open round the clock and molten steel poured from the mighty vats.
It is no more and Western Electric, as another aside, is now a CIA building of some sort. Fort Holabird used to be right down the street, should any of you remember that. My entire house was built from the lumber from Ft. Holarbird barracks, all painted army shitty green.
Trump said that a country without a steel industry is not a country.
Think about it. China is shipping steel all over the world and they got some kind of rigged system that has them making big bucks on tariffs.
If there are no steel mills in America, we are at the mercy of China, Germany....et al.
EVERYTHING HAS EITHER STEEL OR ALUMINUM IN IT!
To include automobiles, appliances, tools of all kind. If our steel and aluminum industries are pushed out of existence, the global world will control America mightily.
Also, some items made from steel need special formulas. Would you want to fly on an airplane made from Chinese steel?
I am in favor, again with my limited knowledge besides having once worked near a steel meal, of giving Trump some leeway on his tariff plan.
It can always be changed.
Somebody tell Mark Levin the world won’t end with the implementation of fair trade taxes.
We now have Trump doing the negotiations and tariffs will be more fair than they were, and other agreements that were unfair to us will be looked at as well. Look for nafta to get gutted.
Trump has already negotiated with both Mexico and Canada but the left wing rhetoric and those on the right who are "never Trumpers" will repeat the false claims that they do. Who cares.
