Oh, I didn't mean impossible! There's always chicken blood! But I do mean difficult.

And there's no need to avoid puncture wounds: on the contrary, there would have to be (apparent) puncture wounds, which is to say, substantial nail holes made by a spike or something of similar heft (not a darning needle.) So a girl would have to stab herself in the feet, hands and side, repeatedly. That would take a kind of grim and sustained determination.

I suppose that's how you'd be caught if you were a mere attention-getting fraud: waning enthusiasm. :o/

Does anyone remember the book by the feminist who told women if you don’t remember being sexually abused to imagine you were sexually abused?

Man-hating is old news in MA. Some years ago my wife fell down the front stairs. I took her to the hospital where staff tried to have her press charges against me. “You’re all right, Mrs. Pabianice. Just give us the word and he will never see or touch you again.” My wife got furious and stormed out. Those bastards at the hospital believed all men are violent beasts. Some work environment.

Whenever I go to the doctor in the military health care system, they ask if I have been abused or feel unsafe at home. This is routine.

On one visit, I was covered in bruises. The moment they asked those questions, I just started babbling. I was on field exercises, my husband was in another state, I hadn’t even seen him in weeks. Babble, babble.

I guess I was convincing, since no one arrested my husband.

“Trust but verify”

That’s not what you are saying on the Sunday women bashing thread you have been on all day. :-)

Bernadette’s story has stood the test of time, she did as she was asked and God granted many healing miracles. This did not happen with other supposed claimants. The Church looks at credible claims for many years before she proclaims them ‘worthy of belief’.

I am a firm believer that we all have Original Sin. I don’t trust anyone without getting to know them, and I know most will lie.

Give someone a big motive for a big lie, and more than a few will do it

My three year old had a lot of issues. She is in the 3% for weight. I went to urgent care and they were going to call DHS on me. Then an older v
Black nurse walked in, gave little bear a hug, and asked how early bear was born. Premies are little for a long time. If that nurse wasn’t there, I know the sheriff would have been called

This whole pseudo-issue has arisen as a version of a liberal canard: that anyone who claims to be a victim (of anything) must be accorded deference and conceded the moral high ground.

Obviously, women lie at least as often as men do. It is stupid to presume otherwise. Anyone who has lived in the real world, outside the liberal bell jar, knows this full well.

St Padre Pio, 20th century mystic, had stigmata from all wounds, repeatedly through his life. He experienced severe pain from them, as if the original wounds were being inflicted. Originally, in the 20's the Vatican refused to accept his stigmata as real. He sought to conceal them, wearing long sleeved robes and bandages, but to little avail once the word got out. People thronged to see him, have him hear their confessions and secure his absolution. He is credited with many miraculous acts, and died in 1968, iirc.

Believe All Women

Easily debunked with two words (and sadly perhaps even more true for too many men as well)

Not very sharp, are you? Would you like me to post the definition of “verify” for you, or can you look it up yourself?

The ‘stigmata’ in the hands are much confusing to me since it’s been proven that they nails went through the writsts.

That always made me suspicious (to say the least)

In my experience women lie MORE than men, they are more likely to be able to pull it off since they seem to often be able to fool themselves into believing their own lies. I was 47 when my first wife died and when I started to get out of the house again one of the first things I noticed was that most divorced men would blame themselves for the divorce but I don’t think I met a single divorced woman who accepted any blame whatsoever. It was obvious that most of the divorced women were living in a state of self delusion. The big exception was one who often said that she believed she was crazy. It turned out she knew herself well!

I get your point. And an initial skepticism is fully justified. One needn't be gullible about reported miracles.

But I'm not sure whether stigmatists' wounds were partly on the wrists, or all on the palms, or both.

It's true that Christ's wounds ought to have been on the wrists. However, in the case of a miraculous wound, I'm not sure the punctures (or lacerations) would have to be identical to His in order to be credible. Certainly the wound in the side would not have been "just like" Jesus' wound: otherwise the stigmatist's stigmata would have been quickly fatal.

Likewise, wounds in the wrists might have caused arterial bleeding, I'm thinking, and could likewise have been fatal to the stigmatist. I don't know if that's a factor or not.

Undoubtedly, there are self-hurters out there, too: masochists, or self-publicists. That would be some. But not all. And the real ones invariably tried to hide their wounds and shunned publicity (e.g. St. Pio of Pietrelcino wore unobtrusive gloves, and lived a somewhat reclusive (non-self-displaying) life.

There were some (I don't remember the names) whose stigmata were not discovered until they died and their bodies were being prepared for burial.
