No need to bother shooting them when you can starve and freeze them out.
There is enough food in the stores to last three days or four at the max. They’d start rioting within the first day and the stores would be looted. Damage the grid so power isnt there and they would kill each other off. The store owners would shut down because they cant run the cash registers and then the riots would start. No water, no power and a limited supply of food.
Your right, they’d kill each other off within the first couple weeks. If not, wait a month and they’d start getting sick from the filth. Hell, they’d s&^t in the streets like they do in San Fran now, no burials-would not happen, it’d be the dark ages all over again.
But shooting them would be so much more satisfying. :-)
I will be pragmatic and say at least the South could be self sufficient and could fight valiantly for a while until embargos, blockades and the Union prevailed. The left has NOTHING to go to war with. I know 1000 ways in which we will pulverize them. I will suggest they look at a few videos of Iraq and Syria and rethink Civil War.

You are exactly right. It is very doubtful that the left has thought this out very far.
Cut off food and fuel deliveries and electricity, which is not difficult, and the cities turn into cauldrons of anarchy in hours. Most city dwellers are painfully lacking in survival skills in such a situation. These are people who call 911 when Popeye's runs out of chicken. They wouldn't be able to start a cook fire let alone prepare food on it.
Within a week any governmental authority that remained would not be able to cope with the dead bodies.
