They certainly made fun of war but I did hear Werner Klemperer speak of war in dark terms. He served in the real one (WW II) and I heard him on the radio saying while the war was necessary it was a horrible thing.
Regardless, it is not in Russia’s interest to stage such a thing on the eve of the presidential election in Russia, only in the interests of Russia’s enemies.
Yes, it was cringeworthy.
It might have been cathartic for some cast members. A number of the actors in real life experienced the war first-hand as Jews who fled Germany, lost family members, and served in the US military.
Robert Clary (LeBeau) was a Holocaust camp survivor with a number tattoo. Klemperer’s family story is more well-known.

Apart from the fact that a country’s interests can look different depending on the perspective of the observer and apart from the fact that a full understanding of country’s interests can only be adequately determined from a point of near-perfect knowledge, it is, of course, well known that countries only do logical things that are in their interests. If this were truly another Clinton Arkancide then this raises what the Clintons are doing to a whole new level of menace....what was done has affected and sickened 200 other people...not just the principle characters. The general public is now at high risk over anything the Clintons might decide to do against their enemies!
