Uhhhhhh

"squaw" has evolved into a pejorative epithet about female genitalia. Qx didn't realize that after 15 years overseas and got into big trouble thinking he was making a warm and culturally sensitive compliment to a group of Dineh women.

Living languages can be so fun ... or not, depending.

Natives have never liked or appreciated the term squaw. It was perkirative from the beginning. It was a term used in a derisive manner....Never woman or wife or daughter....always squaw.

Don’t mess with the Dineh

Squaw is an Algonquin word meaning girl or woman. It means nothing to the Dineh tribe.

Algonquin is as different from Dineh/Navaho as French from Finnish. Had the Americans never been discovered by the West, perhaps all these tribes would have evolved into countries, as distinct as European countries.

It never meant a woman’s genitals. That’s a myth/lie from a incorrect feminist professor on the Oprah Winfrey show in 1992!

I only recently (through dna testing) found out that I do have Native American ancestry. I wish I could have used that for my education! Now I feel like Elizabeth Warren has culturally appropriated my heritage!
