RAND’S STAND: Sen. Paul VOWS to BLOCK Trump’s Picks for State Dept., CIA

GOP Senator Rand Paul publicly announced his total opposition to President Trump’s nominees to head the State Department and the CIA on Wednesday; saying he’s “going to do everything” he can to block them from office.

According to Politico, the outspoken Senator revealed his intentions while speaking with reporters at the US Capitol, saying people “complain sometimes about the filibuster” but added he plans to use the procedural maneuver to derail the nomination process.

“People complain sometimes about the filibuster, they complain about trying to obstruct… “I’m going to do everything I can to block them,” said Paul.

“I’m perplexed by the nomination of people who love the Iraq War so much that they would advocate for a war with Iran next,” Paul added. “It goes against most of the things President Trump campaigned on, that the unintended consequences of regime change in Iraq led to instability in the Middle East.”

I wouldn’t blame Trump if he tackled Paul on the Senate floor.

Sorry Rand...the fact is that Pres. Trump campaigned hard on the notion that the Iran deal was bad for the United States and he was going to try to get out of it.

Is Trump starting a war?
Not to be confused with a strong defense.

I wish he was this upset about the courts allowing schools to force parents to change the sex of their young children.

Huh? I see no evidence Trump wants war with Iran. These nominees will do Trump’s bidding. That’s an assinine reason to block these candidates.

Trump didn’t support the Iraq war either, and brought it up during his campaign. But he also talked a lot about what a bad deal was made with Iran. Rand is infusing the two maybe.

If he was good enough for CIA, why is not good enough for State?

Rand Paul voted against Pompeo for CIA head as well.

Rand Paul is dutifully upholding his principles, can’t fault him for that.

Trump is acting within a war context, using people as material in the chess sense. Putting insiders in titular positions is a way to blunt his opposition within the agencies. I have little doubt that both Pompeo and Haspel are under his thumb because of information he’s holding over them. Controlled opposition in the most direct sense.

War is a dirty business.

In his speech this week in Pennsylvania, Trump brought up the Iraq war, and said it was maybe the worst foreign policy move in American history. He sad it was “like throwing a brick at a hornets nest”, causing chaos in the Middle East and leading to the waste of $7 trillion in us tax dollars.

That was Trump talking, not Rand Paul, and it was five days ago

Rand claims Pompeo still supports the Iraq War, and wants to follow it up with a war against Iran. Big that’s so, Rand is right to wonder about how that squares with Trumps stated positions

“I’m perplexed by the nomination of people who love the Iraq War so much that they would advocate for a war with Iran next,”

Who says that we're going to fight it? Kick it off and sell weapons to "our friends the Saudis". Let them burn their treasure and see if they can actually do some fighting rather than have some proxy do it for them.

In a Senate with a 51-49 Republican majority and John McCain perhaps terminally ill, this is not a good turn of events for Trump. Hopefully, Rand Paul is bargaining for something to benefit his home state or some other concession.

The alternative is to seek votes from Democrats who are not totally loony like Manchin.

I guess he'll also filibuster against Marco's Bill to eliminate Daylight savings time - it's because that what he does.
