Does Rand Paul Owe Gina Haspel an Apology?
NRO ^ | 14 March 2018 | Rich Lowery

Posted on 03/16/2018 12:22:10 AM PDT by lowbuck

Rand Paul launched a typically obnoxious attack on Gina Haspel today. Here is one account:

“To really appoint the head cheerleader for waterboarding to be head of the CIA? How can you trust somebody who did that to be in charge of the CIA,” Paul wondered, adding, “To read of her glee during the waterboarding is just absolutely appalling.”

Paul was referring to an account of a waterboarding session with suspected al Qaeda lieutenant Abu Zubaydah, who was subjected to so-called enhanced interrogation techniques now widely considered to be torture. ., .

The problem is that this conduct appears to be misattributed to Haspel. A U.S. intelligence official provided this statement:

Senator Paul’s claims today about Gina Haspel are not only inaccurate, but contradicted by the very source materials he relied on. The Senator quotes liberally from page 263 of James Mitchell’s book “Enhanced Interrogation” in describing the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah in claiming that Ms. Haspel was the CIA Chief of Base who was present and expressing joy at this interrogation. A reading of the same page demonstrates that the Chief of Base present and quoted during this event was a man, not Gina Haspel. This is just one of many false claims about Ms. Haspel being peddled by the uninformed. . . snip

It does no good for people to display uninformed opinions based on emotions.

Exactly. So why did Rand Paul display uninformed opinions based on emotions when he falsely accused Gina Haspel?

Agree - Marshall, McArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton all believed waterboarding was a war crime.

They executed people who waterboarded others.

Please provide the names of the individuals executed by Marshall, McArthur, Eisenhower and Patton for using waterboarding as a torture technique.

President Trump is falling in line with the globalists. He blamed Assad in Syria, where we still have an illegal presence. He took the side of the Kiev gov which was a result of US regime change meddling. He sides with Saudi Arabia and Israel. I’m disappointed. He campaigned as someone who would end the globalist meddling. He doesn’t acknowledge that Palestinians have a right to a place to live safely. He says he’s willing to talk to the NK leader, but gets walked back.

I don’t disagree with anything you stated. I fear that the globalists are having too much influence on President Trump. I wonder if Nikki Haley isn’t part of the problem.

I wish some of these so called republicans would go after democrats like they do republicans. They pretty much gave obama a pass for eight years.

“He does not need to apologize. He has strong feelings, well found feelings about her being unfit to serve in the position.”

So he’s a snowflake; it’s all about his “feelings”? What about the facts? The point of the article is that Mr Paul has is facts wrong and therefore his “strong feelings” are based on him being misinformed. You say he shouldn’t care about the facts, just his “feelings”. You called him a snowflake, which I never knew he was.

“Feelings” are emotions, not thoughts, though someone can work up some “feelings” because of their thoughts. But “feelings” can also be wrong, because they can come from mere immediate reactions without any good analysis of what the reaction is to and any choosing of what reaction is desired - just react.

Judgement, based on “feelings” and not what someone’s THINKING is is not judgement - just an emotional reaction.

I always counsel writers to never say “I feel” thus and so, when what is meant is “I think”, or “I believe”. Yes it is better to think than to merely “feel” - emote.

So which did Mr Paul do - merely feel, or think?

We also found an online posting by John Kiriakou, a former CIA counter-terrorism officer, who wrote that “It was Haspel who oversaw the staff” at the Thai prison, including two psychologists who “designed the torture techniques and who actually carried out torture on the prisoners.”

This could be factual. She may have supervised the "torturers" AFTER the incidents once she took over the base.

Correction: Trump’s Pick to Head CIA Did Not Oversee Waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah.

After much perusal. I conclude that the main perpetrator of this lie is the publication I posted above, which retracted their allegations. They took comments from books, CIA postings on social media and concocted the wrong story. They lay it out pretty good how they got it wrong.

The CIA, of course, is reluctant to comment to the press about CIA operations or agents, so they are at a disadvantage when the press hounds come calling. It will all shake out in the hearings. And the dems will again look like the idiots that they are. Rand Paul too, unless he gets his head out of his ass.

Rand Paul too, unless he gets his head out of his ass.

Impossible. It is a genetic defect passed down as a family trait. I once say a family skeleton that portrayed the defect exactly.

Nikki Haley is ambitious as sin and her positions prior to her UN appointment are certainly suspect. She appears thus far to be channeling President Trump’s policies and enunciating them forcefully. I still wouldn’t trust her further than I can see her.

Trump certainly removed her as a thorn in his side in South Carolina and may have utilized her in a position where she is helping America by presenting a strong & united front. POTUS is calling the shots.

Wha...What???? Wow, Grania have you misread things.

Pesident Trump is falling in line with the globalists.

You couldn't be more wrong. Ask Theresa May. Ask the EU. Ask the Middle East (more on that later.) The Donald is currently engaged in a WAR with the globalists and they are fighting back with everything they have. I recommend you spend some time on the Q threads for further information. There is much to learn.

He blamed Assad in Syria, where we still have an illegal presence.

Syria is a puzzlement. They are allied with Iran, who is an enemy of Saudi. The power struggle for the middle east is Iran vs. Saudi. Do you remember the change of regime in Saudi last December and the purge that followed. Even the Saudi prince that died in England the other day? The Donald was behind that purge. He arranged for one of the legs of the Deep State (Saudi) to be neutralized and now they are working with us. For real this time. There are other elements of the global cabal and they are being worked on as we speak.

He took the side of the Kiev gov which was a result of US regime change meddling.

I'm not up on the Ukraine situation, so I reserve comment. I will say, though, that supporting Ukrainian independence from Russia is hardly a "globalist" stance.

He sides with Saudi Arabia and Israel.

And? Siding with one ally and turning another INTO an ally is smart worldpolitik, yes? How is that globalism?

I’m disappointed. He campaigned as someone who would end the globalist meddling.

Do you consider denuking North Korea without firing a shot to be "globalist meddling?"

He doesn’t acknowledge that Palestinians have a right to a place to live safely.

Where do you get that idea? They can live safely all day long if they stop lobbing onto the heads of innocent Israelis, stabbing them, throwing rocks at them and being all around pests. Even the Israelis would leave them alone if they would settle down and act like human beings.

He says he’s willing to talk to the NK leader, but gets walked back.

What are you talking about, walked back? FYI, he already talked to the Norks. The deal is done. I wouldn't be surprised if Korea was united when The Donald is done with them.

With all due respect, grania, your take on world events is all jacked up. I invite you to the Q threads.

p.s. I think you have "globalist" and "interventionist" mixed up, and you are still wrong either way.

Waterboarding is not torture. Try learning what it is before you call claim something is torture.

Water boarding is a mild form of interrogation that works without harming the person.

harm one of my loved ones, and you will learn what torture is my FRiend!

You might be correct that I have "globalist" and "interventionist" mixed up. I'm just not convinced that President Trump isn't taking sides.

Thank you for your well thought out and informed response. A lot of what you say has me thinking about some of my stances.

<\Maybe the pa;Palestinians should go back to Jordan where they were original kicked out of. by the King of Jordan.

You being for the Palestinians and against us helping Israel is very disconcerting to learn.

“He does not need to apologize.
Of course he does. For repeating an easily provable lie. He’s a Senator and should know better before he opens his big yap.

Help The Donald drain the swamp or get out of the way, Rand. “

It’s easy to see why his neighbor kicked the $hit out of him!

You don’t think he should apologize for making specific false accusations against her simply because he “has strong feelings”?

I'm not aware that he did that but if so, of course.

Obviously “feelings” was a wrong choice of a word. Opinion might fit better.

"Palestinians" could live safely in Israel - if they chose to. Instead, they have chosen to try to destroy Israel and replace it with another islamic sh!thole.
