BRECKSVILLE, Ohio Seventy-six days until the primary election, and another chance to win them over. Christina Hagans heels click on the floor of the small-town community center. Does anyone have a flag pin? she asks, realizing that she left hers on an outfit she wore to a chili cook-off, or a meeting with a mayor, or all the times she went door-knocking to say, I dont want to bug you too much, but Im running for Congress.
More than 400 women a record number are expected to run for Congress this year, and 29-year-old Hagan is part of the surge. The vast majority are Democrats, motivated by the 2016 election to get angry and get organized. Hagan is inspired by Donald Trump, too just not in the same way. Shes inspired to help him achieve his goals.
She accepts a tiny flag pin from a staffer and readies herself to impress a club called the Cuyahoga Valley Republicans. Her campaign manager papers the seats of the meeting room with pictures of her face surrounded by the words, Conservative Republican Christina Hagan Shares Our Values! Pro-guns. Pro-life. Stop Illegal Immigration.

Snarky little article from the WaPo. Hope shes as Conservative as she says. If so, then I hope she wins.

I remember Anthony Gonzales as a football player. He might have the advantage. I say whoever can win in November.

An unsurprising but very subtle Nazi reference in the very second sentence: Christina Hagans heels click on the floor...

She is. I’ve been diminishing for her since I first heard her speak. An impressive young lady that I honestly think could be a presidential candidate, if she can navigate the Congressional morass! Tellingly, the establishment and Kasich hate her.

That and establishment money, along with the blessing of McConnell are what he has going for him. Nice enough guy, but definitely hardcore RINO

I get it. Increasingly, when I type in Trump, autocorrect changes it to rump. No agenda there! /s

Yes the Kasich cabal can’t stand her.
Which is the best endorsement of all.

This must be a different Hagan family from the one I know of in Cuyahoga County. They are BIG Democraps, and one of them ran against Kasich a few yrs ago. Can anyone straighten me out?

My apologies for the time lag in response! I don’t actually log in much to check pings.
Christina is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative that the establishment see as a direct threat. And the Dems HATE her passionately. Her father was State Rep as well for the same district, and he was conservative too.

Fwiw, Hagan’s opponent Gonzalez is a nice guy and former tOSU football player. He also has the complete support of the Kasich establishment, which is damning praise indeed. There is a third candidate who has zero chance of winning but a decent chance if costing Christina the race.
