This whole thing is a waste of everyone's time and the Peoples Money. The Bridge was unnecessary.
Bet they put in another traffic light instead, a traffic loop or a bypass.....for millions less.
Seems a lot of stupidity reigns in America these days.
Last place I was at, you could NOT turn them away from rank stupidity. It was mind-boggling. Complete rejection of truth, best practices, etc.

I went to college in WNC, which is WCU, and we had/have a walk across bridge that has been there for decades. In fact, there are lots of walk across bridges, in NC, that have existed for decades with zero problems!

A steel bridge would have been safer, easier to construct and met the need very nicely.
Well, there was a waterway to be crossed as well.
We still don’t know the proximate cause for the failure. The cable support column had to be constructed after the spans were inplace.
Aside from the error that resulted in failure, the primary error seems to be allowing traffic while work was in progress

Nah, the government solution would be to build a light rail line that requires subsidies to cover the fares. Eminent domain, here we come!!!!
