San Francisco is officially a sh#thole.
Yeah. So I hear. But I worked in NYC in the late ‘70s and through the ‘80’s. Every subway station I ever went into in Manhattan and The Bronx stunk of piss from one end to the other.
“San Francisco is officially a sh#thole.”
Haiti comes to the US
It certainly is and I live here since 1980. The drug addled bums are a protected species who assault, defecate and use drugs on your doorstep with impunity. The cops are overwhelmed and rarely show up unless there is active gunfire. You take care of the problem your self.
The car burglars are not only organized gangs with international ties but there are home grown ferals from Oakland and the east bay as well. They are now branching from car burglaries to home burglaries/invasions as well as street robberies. The PD has been neutered to a kind of social worker with a badge.
Market/7th is crack central as well as a one stop fencing operation market for smart phones. There are open air chop shops for stolen bicycles around some homeless encampments.
Haight/Ashbury is dangerous as hell as well as the area around the Lombard street steps. I refuse to ride Muni. It stinks and is unreliable.
BART stands for Beat And Rob Train riders. There is no “legal” CCW. Note I said “legal”.
All that being said if you are a local you can keep safe if you keep your eyes open, know what to look for and project an aura of hardness and know how to play “street poker”. Do not ever look weak. I have been the attempted target of street robberies x 2 over the years. Both were unsuccessful LOL.
The real victims are the tourists who commit mistakes like leaving purses/laptops/passports in their rental cars. Whats amusing is the people who attend these “community” meetings held by the Politicians and the police. They constantly bleat about how they need protection and clean streets and fed platitudes yet the same Pols are voted into office again and again.
SF resembles NYC in the early 70’s in some ways. There will be a Paul Kersey or the McManus brothers that rises up and then the local government will get off their dead a$$es if for no other reason than to deal with that.

I have been eating In N Out burgers for over 50 years. Ate one a week ago yesterday. They DO NOT have a ‘special sauce’ and they never have done so. Don’t confuse McDonald’s with In N Out. Especially in California. You might not like the reaction.
IF you are walking to work at 9 AM-—it IS NOT a Sunny afternoon.........
