“”Welcome to the party. The government has been running a corrupt sham for as long as you have been alive. Lies and false promises on top of lies and failures. And we get the privilege of paying to be lorded over and mocked.””

Which is a long, long time - more years than I want to claim with another birthday later this month - but I still say, it’s really shameful and disgusting to believe that after all these years, we have been fed stories! What have our men gone to war and died for, for crying out loud? More carefully crafted stories?

I watched my parents cry when I was just a kid after they got the news about my mother’s baby brother being killed in January 1942 which turned out to be with later news - on Bataan.

Why in the dickens do we even vote? I know there are some here who say we can’t be pessimistic but how on earth would one suggest not giving in to it? I don’t want to be skeptical or jaded but how can it be prevented? I can’t teach my young grandson to believe things about this country that are now repugnant. I can’t teach him or advise his parents to teach him not to trust anyone in power. Sadly, with every day news, it seems that’s where we are.

Sounds like you have a few years on me, old timer!

I get my good cheer out of having my own mental independence, and teaching that (or trying to) my kids. That, along with a reverence for a God-given gift of life, to glorify God, knowing the world is imperfect (understatement of the day, I suppose).

Mankind and a whole is doomed, on its own failures. That doesn't mean you, or I, or any other individual is personally doomed. Do what you can. Live a decent life, pass it (truth, honesty, integrity, etc.) on to your family and friends.

We tend to focus on the distant government when our lives can be little (or as you and your parents were, much) affected by it. Be upstanding in your neighborhood and community. What is the trite saying, think globally, live locally? Something like that. Keeps me from going batty.
