Emperor Maurice prosecuted a very successful campaign against the Persians. Then in 602 he and his sons were betrayed and executed by a rogue general. The Eastern Empire and the Persians then went to war and both emerged so horribly weakened thst there was no military strength left to stave off the Muslims coming in from the south and east.

Had Maurice not been assassinated, Islam might have forever been confined to the Arabian peninsula. There would have been no conquests into Anatolia, Persia and Northern Africa.

The death of one man led to so much of today's problems.

Yes, it was a turning point allowing militant Islam to capitalize on their sudden weakness. The problem is that Islam is always on the offensive, even today. Weakness allows it to spread like a cancer.
