US President Donald Trump’s “Taiwan Travel Act” continues to draw ire from Chinese authorities. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Saturday the bill “severely violates” the “one China” principle and sends “very wrong signals to the ‘pro-independence’ separatist forces in Taiwan.”

“China is strongly opposed to [the bill],” Lu said in a statement. “We urge the US side to correct its mistake, stop pursuing any official ties with Taiwan or improving its current relations with Taiwan in any substantive way,” he added.

In a separate statement, Chinese defense ministry spokesman Wu Qian said the act “interferes in China’s internal affairs.”

China urges the US to “stop pursuing any US-Taiwan military ties and stop arms sales to Taiwan, so as to avoid causing serious damage to the bilateral and military relations between China and the US, and to the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” the statement said. …

I wouldn’t have been terribly surprised, just horrified, if ChiCom inroads against Taiwan wasn’t part of what Hillary had agreed in advance to give the Clinton’s long time buddies in corruption in return for a win in NK.

I say this having taken the stance that all of Kim’s actions are part of some script set in place for when Hillary had won but he’s just going ahead with his role in the game to get what he wants even though she didn’t in fact win and become President.

“Someone remind me...Didn’t we win Taiwan from the the Japanese at the end of WWII? We have a more recent and better claim to Taiwan than the Chinese. Maybe we should talk about them as an American protectorate. “

Yes.

Taiwan was part of Japan during the fall of the Chinese Emperor, establishment of the Republic of China, WWII, the Chinese civil war.

Taiwan had nothing to do with any of it.

We should make the same argument about Cuba and take care of business there.

Certainly concur.

We also need to reverse that vile proclamation by John Kerry of the Monroe Doctrine being “over”. He invited our enemies in by doing that.

Yep. Trump should reinstate it immediately to get foreigners out of Venezuela and Cuba.

Taiwan is not a country.
Taiwan is not a province of China.
The United States hopes that issues between Taiwan and China are settled peacefully.
Since the United States does not recognize Taiwan as a country, the United States cannot enter into a treaty with Taiwan.
