Edward Snowden: Facebook is a surveillance company rebranded as 'social media'

Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden ripped Facebook in a tweet Saturday after the social media giant suspended Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics firm which worked worked for President Trump’s campaign.

Facebook accused the firm on Friday of not deleting data it had improperly harvested from Facebook users, which number in the tens of millions, but Snowden pinned the blame squarely on Facebook and lumped in other social media companies for being just as reckless.

"Businesses that make money by collecting and selling detailed records of private lives were once plainly described as 'surveillance companies,'" Snowden said. "Their rebranding as 'social media' is the most successful deception since the Department of War became the Department of Defense."

"Facebook makes their money by exploiting and selling intimate details about the private lives of millions, far beyond the scant details you voluntarily post," Snowden said earlier in the day. "They are not victims. They are accomplices."

Cambridge Analytica on Saturday denied any wrongdoing, issuing a statement that said the firm "fully complies" with Facebook's terms of service,

The ensuing uproar has prompted at least one lawmaker, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., to call on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, reportedly asked Cambridge Analytica last fall to surrender emails from any of its employees who worked for the Trump campaign. The firm complied to the request.

Facebook has already taken heat for spreading "fake news" during the election and promised changes.

Last year Facebook handed Mueller its findings regarding Russian Facebook ads, revealed when the company announced $100,000 was purchased for ads from June 2015 to May 2017 by a Russian "troll farm" called the Internet Research Agency, which has promoted pro-Russian propaganda. The money was connected to approximately 3,000 ads and 470 "inauthentic accounts and pages."

Mueller later indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities for meddling in the 2016 presidential election, those who were part of the Internet Research Agency.

Snowden was granted asylum in Russia back in 2013 after he leaked secret information from the National Security Agency's surveillance programs and has been there ever since.

Draining the swamp necessarily includes fixing the problem of Facebook. The Facebook state runs very deep.

This attack on Cambridge Analytica is one of many prongs in the multi-pronged all out attack on Trump by the establishment.

CA was very successful in helping Trump win the election. Trump’s campaign was able to beat the Democrats at what had been their own game - use of social media and detailed analytics. Romney and McCain were far outclassed by the Obama team.

But Trump’s team prevailed and was superior. Therefore the Democrats must try to shut them down or hinder them as much as possible.

I hate to break it to Snowden, but pretty much everything nowadays is a “surveillance” company, right down to your grocery store super-savings card.

As could have been, and was, anticipated by citizens who, by their knowledge of the history of tyranny and those who implement it to control and destroy others, the oh-so-innocent “facebook” appeal has endangered the liberties of the gullible and well-meaning citizens who have turned over their lives, their privacies, and that of others, to any who would exploit Zuckerberg’s own wealth-creating scheme for their purposes, as well.

Easy to fix Facebook, everybody drop their national narcissistic behavior. The behavior of needing to tell every one about all aspects of yourself & daily life 7/24. If you’re not there giving up “the goods” Facebook has nothing to sell. Remember you are Facebook’s product! Recover a sense of privacy and nothing needs to be done. Otherwise stop complaining! Facebook is the equivalent of standing on your roof stark naked and flashing your privates at the neighbor aunties! And then complaining when the pictures are sold!

Don’t like it! Don’t do it!

Yes. FB recently began enforcing persecution of dissidents. Anyone who doesn’t promote the official leftist party line is suppressed. Suppression ranges from partial to full, depending on the number of muzzies who report the user.

The government isn’t allowed to suppress free speech (although it does) because of the First Amendment, so it willingly allows private corporations to do what it doesn’t want to be known as doing.

Everything you post on FB is recorded, and available for the thought police when they come looking. If the fascists get back into power, they will have a large trove of information to pore over, looking for people to destroy.

Zucko needs to be interrogated.

Totally agree. I stopped posting on Facebook a couple of years ago and don’t miss it at all!

No kidding. When the Antichrist comes, he and his operatives will have a gold mine to dig through with FakeBook.

I think we’re all aware the internet has been turned into something else. Pretty much all of it.

That’s why Hillary’s emails (and even Lois Lerner’s) were never really “lost”.

True. I’m sure he’s aware of that though. He just knows that Zuckerberg is a typical lefty. He’s trying to deliver the maximum punch possible to this liberal goon.

If people were to walk away from Fakebook, it would take away much of his power.

I’m sure we all doubt folks will give it up. Even Snowden.

[And Google is an NSA created tracking program.]

Told that to some coworkers 10 years ago after one of them read a news article.

They then accused me of tinfoil, black helicopters, etc.

Then one of them read on in the article and saw what somebody else said.

Most of the population is completely clueless.

But then, tinfoil makes a great hat for me!

A friend of mine was robbed using that stupid thing: “Hey everybody, me and my family are going on vacation next week!” Yes, great job retardo letting crooks know you won’t be home, and then 2 years ago my 78 year old father who was utterly naive about the internet was scammed out of a shtload of his money by punks in Ghana who made pretend they were women. Yes, what a lovely website. How much is Zuckerturd worth now? $40 billion? And you can bet my father wasn’t the only one, there’s probably thousands of elderly whose lives have been destroyed by that thing.
