“The police are doing a damn fine job of fomenting that for themselves.”

Bull. It’s being spread by trolls and fake news.

How about charges against the fool that “swatted” him to begin with?

Sure, and perhaps charges against those buying the billboard ads ...

And you are over reacting in a ridiculous way

No one said you have to love everything police do.

IF you had bothered to read the article or follow this case at all you would have known that the police told this man to keep his hands up. He was shot when he didn’t. It is not the police’s fault that some lunatic called in a murder hostage gun situation

Has he been charged with “incitement to murder,” or similar or merely some internet-type crime?

Tyler Barriss, 25, was arrested in South Los Angeles on Dec. 29, and is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Wichita swatting.

According to information inside this thread, the victim was shot, on his own porch, by a policeman using a dreaded AR-15, from 44 yards away. Some police (maybe the shooter, too, I couldn't tell), were both armored up and concealed.

This is not a split-second life-or-death scenario for the policeman.

Secondly, what happened to calling the house or trying a hostage negotiator? You know, it used to be the case that was done, to prevent just this kind of thing.

Good point, I didn’t read the whole thing. And I think police do need to use extra caution in today’s world where a bullet can come from anywhere. But they are being paid to take risks, which if they don’t like should find another job rather than just shoot at the first sign of trouble.

You're a baldfaced liar.

His job is to shoot hostage-takers to kill, if necessary, to protect the lives of innocents.

But there was no hostage taker in existence. So he killed an innocent man, to protect a non-existent hostage.

That's not his job.

The most you can say is he attempted to do his job and failed badly.

Whatever happened to hostage negotiators anyway?

I would like to open a vanity discussion on the merits of Qualified Immunity with the most conservative group of people in America.

Free Republic.

Will you participate in that debate?

On another board I frequent, populated by many cops, with many of them veterans, this guys actionns were roundly criticized. When it goes past a purely admistrative screw-up, ithink cops should face the same penalties any other citizen would

Charging him will ruin his life, even if he is not guilty. That is why men of good faith want an investigation prior to the hanging.

That's peculiar that you say that, cause the guy who got shot to death by a rifle, who was utterly innocent, didn't get due process.

“It’s a thin blue line and there WILL be collateral damage, just like we had in ‘Nam and Iraq.”

We, the citizen employers demand otherwise.

If cops will not comply, we’ll get rid of them.

“accidental discharge”

I didn't say that.

Are you saying he intentionally kill an innocent man?

If he intentionally broke the law, we treat him as a criminal.

“He was shot when he didn’t.”

It’s important to note the man was shot on his own front porch, alone. Not shots were heard by police and no hostages were evident.

And no weapons were seen.

And, all the cops were behind cover, with vest and helmets.

And you have the temerity to defend them?

What if they ordered him to drop his pants and shit? If he couldn’t pinch that turd quickly enough, should he be shot dead?

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying.

Are you going to now claim that he knew the .223 round is generally not particularly lethal, so his intent was only to “wing” the decedent?

Still waiting for you to cite one fatal “officer-involved shooting” of a private citizen you consider inappropriate.

“Still waiting for you to cite one fatal “officer-involved shooting” of a private citizen you consider inappropriate.”

Under scrutiny, the Blue Wall always assumes the position “Above All”.

That is an axiom that will lead to their demise.

And it will force them into the camp of those they purport to hate in the ghettos of America.

One day they’ll even live there.
