He could have vetoed this piece of legislative effluent, and forced the House and Senate to override...if they could get it done.
That would have cost him NOTHING with his base.
But in that case they could have let it die so they could then use it against him.
There is no way to spin this unless the base is beyond stupid. Trump messed up badly and betrayed us all.
He could have given a prime time speech and told voters that unless PP and sanctuary cities are defunded and money allocated the wall, he would not sign. The people would have rallied.
Instead, he sat idly by like an ignorant bystander and played into the popular caricature that he is a fool, moron, and an idiot. Schumer, Durbin, and Pelosi cannot contain their glee that they fooled and conned Trump. This is no Art of The Deal. It is for sure “The Art of Being An Imbecile.”
