Trump: Border wall construction will start on Monday
Washington examiner ^

Posted on 03/24/2018 5:00:01 PM PDT by MNDude

President Trump said Friday that construction of his promised border wall would start "immediately" after signing the omnibus spending bill, which included $1.6 billion in funding for the wall.

"We're going to be starting work literally on Monday," Trump said during an event Friday at the White House. "We have a lot of money coming to the border."

Trump had threatened earlier Friday to veto the spending bill Congress passed on Thursday because it did not include sufficient funding for the wall and because it omitted expiring protections for young, undocumented immigrants.

Doesn’t the bill specify that he cannot build walls that are REAL walls or look anything like the prototypes he visited in California?
No, that is referring to the 1.6B. That can't be used except for fence. However, there was an amendment passed by the House that basically gives Trump carte blanche to use military spending on the wall. LOL! He tricked them again!

“Been a loooong time since DC’s seen brass ones like this :-)) “

That’s why Trump rode up the escalator like Rush said. His brass ones are to heavy to carry up the stairs.

According to the AP (http://www.newser.com/article/0413129c527e40cfa5046d92cfff55f3/ap-news-guide-trump-gets-wishes-on-border-wall-sort-of.html):

“WHAT DID TRUMP GET? Trump got the $1.6 billion he sought for one year of funding” (not the whole wall cost up front).

“Trump wanted to spend the $1.6 billion on 60 miles (96 kilometers) of new wall in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, the busiest corridor for illegal crossings, and 14 miles (22.4 kilometers) of replacement in San Diego.

Instead, he will get about 90 miles (144 kilometers) — more than what he sought — but the balance shifts more toward replacement wall than new miles and the money comes with strings attached.”

“It allows 25 miles (40 kilometers) of new wall made of levees in Rio Grande Valley for $445 million. That’s 3 miles (5 kilometers) less than what Trump wanted because Congress declared the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge in Texas off-limits to construction.

Congress is giving $196 million for new bollard-style barriers in Rio Grande Valley, which encompasses more than 300 miles (483 kilometers) of river and cities including Brownsville and McAllen on Texas’ southern tip. That money is expected to add 8 miles (13 kilometers).

The bill sets aside $251 million to replace 14 miles (23 kilometers) in San Diego, just as Trump asked.

It also marks $445 million for other replacement barriers. The administration has not given mileage or locations, but it is expected to provide 45 miles (72 kilometers), which averages to about $10 million a mile (1.6 kilometers).”

“WHAT STRINGS ARE ATTACHED? Aside from the construction ban in the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge, the bill requires that wall construction this year sticks to existing designs that have proven effective.” (That basically means bollards - what the Border Patrol wanted anyway).

Bottom Line: As of Monday, we are now back in the border fortification business in a pretty big way (in historical terms), and the new barriers will be the biggest ever.

Two or three years of construction like this will really turn around the lower Rio Grande Valley for the Border Patrol, even if we never get the lump sum funding for the total project.

with the 1.6B. However, there is an amendment that was passed by the House that allows him to appropriate defense spending however he wants. LOL!

Someone said Trump looked tired, frustrated and defeated during the signing ceremony. Could all of it, however, have been acting on Trump’s part?

yeah, if you read the earlier threads on Friday, some Freepers said it. But I could think it was just an act.

You know the Don Corleon saying: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. He has Ryan and Schumer close-by, if you know what I mean..

At what point into his 4 year term am I allowed to get angry if planned parenthood continues business as usual with taxpayer money?

You're allowed to get angry all along the way. I've been referring to abandoning one's support for the President. He's simply doing too much good for that to be contemplated.

Le't be honest—nobody is ever going to agree 100% with what any President does. It's simply impossible. But President Trump is doing a damngood job so far—certainly as good as Reagan.

And Reagan had the minor advantage of not having to deal with a criminal conspiracy fomented by a totally corrupt Uniparty Swamp that is trying to use the Deep State to attempt a coup against a duly elected President.

Let's also not forget that Donald J. Trump was a complete neophyte as far as electoral politics are concerned. What he's been able to accomplish—beginning with winning the Presidency against overwhelming odds, including battling an openly biased media, as well as a completely corrupt intelligence community weaponized by the previous President—is absolutely incredible.

People really do fail to appreciate to this day what President Trump has had to overcome. Barring something extremely egregious—and signing a bloated 6-month spending bill does not qualify—he has earned the trust and loyalty of his supporters a dozen times over.

The President deserves our support, come Hell or high water. All else is #NeverTrump foolishness...

> Remember: Obama was going to close Guantanamo on day one.

Obama never had any intention of closing Guantanamo. It was pure pandering.
