Trump campaigned as a fiscal Democrat, which is part of what drove the dems crazy. They were used to running against evil, mean-spirited Republicans who wanted to save the country from bankruptcy. Trump jumped on the pixie dust bandwagon with the dems and took the issue away. Trump probably thinks that Obama got to run trillion dollar deficits to media applause, so he is entitled to do the same.
