Erika Shields said staff shortages, in excess of 300 officers, has forced her to reevaluate how to deploy officers. In the affluent section north of downtown, Shields said, the APD Zone Two officers frequently get calls from merchants to do a report on a shoplifter who has been caught by store security. After filling out the paperwork, the officer then must arrange a transport to the Atlanta City Jail in downtown. Makes perfect sense for them to stop dealing with shoplifters. There's no profit in any of that.

Arresting Shoplifters is very costly, they have NO money to pay any fines. I can send 1 officer out and in 1 1/2 hours he can write 4 Speeding Tickets and bring in over $2500 to my City, why in hell would I waste precious resources on a bunch of thugs with No Visible Means of PAYING??? you said it better than I did. LOL.

azz backwards management. chief acknowledges frequent shoplifters caught instead of refusing to arrest, they should have announced a task force with the local DA to prosecute all shoplifters to the fullest extent of the law... print their mugshots in the local paper and see what happens..also cooperate with merchants to publicize the task force in their windows...isn’t affirmative action great? did the chief even confer with a real cop or prosecutor or merchants about her idiotic plan?

I wonder if she’d respond to a call of a shoplifter bleeding out on the street in front of the victim store?

i.e. those rich people can afford to have some of their assets ripped off by the poor and the downtrodden - just another way of redistributing the wealth...... "Let dem touch dem things!"

When areas lose their WASP culture (in this case, property rights), then it is all over. Years ago Somalia had no functioning government; when you landed at the airport there was nobody to even stamp your passport.

Nowadays savvy people understand this, and they don’t want to open businesses in areas where the welfare folk will branch out years down the road. Some of these owners probably opened their businesses when the area was “healthier”, and now are riding out their last few years ‘til retirement without police protection.

So - stores can report being robbed but no action will be taken - maybe stores ought to put in small, soundproofed and easily cleaned, “You shounn’t have done that” rooms and start busting some kneecaps....

I wonder if anyone’s published a study on the difference in crime stats between male/female police chiefs?
