What the h-ll does Jeff Bezos looks have to do with anything?
As for the WaPo and all the other liberal run businesses that slime our President, so what? Have you been to a big city downtown or a big mall lately where the monkeys have overrun everything and the prices you pay are jacked up to cover the rent and city taxes?

Amazon fits a void that exists to this day and we do pay taxes on the products they sell.

I’m sure that all the little people that own a few shares of Amazon stock are really upset at Trump right now thanks to his mouthing off again. I know I am.

Show me where Bezos is breaking the law! Level the playing field? Like bring back losers like Sears, K-mart and mom and pop stores? Trump should be ashamed of himself for this or is just jealous.

Then mom and pop end up on welfare, where tax-subsidized (directly and indirectly) Bezosland wants them.

We do not have a free market; we have a bastard market that Lex Luthor / Citizen Kane is allowed to exploit.

The flagrant abuse of the Postal Service alone requires Federal intervention. I do not want one cent of my money paying for Bezosland shipping so he can undercut the competition!

We do not have a free market - and he is being allowed to exploit the bastardized unfree market.

I agree. They just worked real hard to exploit it, and continue to.

The catalog operations were so slow, they were no threat to ordinary stores. Amazon changed that through the internet (instant ordering) and high speed fulfillment (guys like you at UPS). So they were far more successful and now an existential threat to bricks and mortar stores. But depends in part of the differential tax treatment.

it’s reasonable to flatten all that out and political pressure is doing that. And in Bezos case, since he’s financing so much left wing crap, I’m really OK seeing him get whacked around a bit. Especially a guy promoting politicians who want to take more of my money. A guy trying to drive down his own taxes should get that...

So what? So they SHOULDN’T BE SUPPORTED, that’s “so what.”

Do you tune in to CNN each night to give them the ratings? Did you buy Hillary’s book? No. You don’t support them because they’re SCUMBAGS and that’s what Amazon is.

well you are welcome to shop at your local store and overpay by 30%+, no one is stopping you.

I on the other hand will shop for the lowest price on the EXACT same item every time and buy it from the person selling it for the lowest price.

I agree and try to buy American whenever possible especially because a lot of shit made in China is shit and needs to be replaced faster, costing more in the long run.

Many local stores will match prices on Amazon, and it’s not 30% more on everything. Amazon also lets people sell knock off items from China and does very little to stop it - so American companies get their products copied and Amazon sells the Chinese knocks offs, doing very little to stop it.

And too boot, Jeff Bezos used your money to buy the anti American Washington Post using it as his own personal weapon against President Trump.
But go ahead and keep buying from Amazon because it’s convenient.

I collect books for free from library discards. It’s a rare thing that I actually buy a book.

“Go to England and small downtowns are vibrant: Stationery next to fabrics next to books next to hardware, etc. Same across Europe.”

partially because retail commerce is extremely regulated by these socialist-type governments, dictating hours and days of operation, store size, and a million other parameters. It’s why everything costs at least twice as much in Europe for the average person and practically ALL of their retail service totally sucks.

I for one was glad to see the 3rd-generation mini-monopolies destroyed in my small town when the chains started to move in due to the population growth promoted by the local chamber of commerce, thinking they would get more business, when in fact they were cutting their own throats.

the little downtown stores were all highly insular and treated new-comers to the town like shit, which was ironic because they were always promoting rah-rah-sis-boom-bah growth and shop local campaigns in the local propaganda rag. Of course shopping local was a joke: they still focused on paper tape and ribbons for adding machines when people needed ink jet cartridges for the PC printers.

It was a breath of fresh air when professional retailers moved into town and killed the local political power brokers and the retail stores that formed their financial power base.

“Amazon and the other Internet companies had a great advantage in that there was no sales tax”

Amazon is now collecting sales tax for almost all U.S. states, and tomorrow, on 3/29/2018 they will begin collecting sales tax for the remaining states, thereby collecting sales tax for all 57 states.

“His ENTIRE business model is based on being 10% behind in-store retail prices based on this.”

you haven’t been paying attention: amazon already collects sales taxes for most states, and starting tomorrow 3/29/2018), will begin collecting sales tax for all 57 states.

“downtowns died in the 1970’s. Amazon or no Amazon, we are never going back to small mom and pop stores selling saddles or whatever.”

or selling ribbons for adding machines instead of ink jet cartridges for printers ... that’s what did in the mom and pop office supply store in my little town, when the town finally got big enough for the Office Whatever chains to finally move in

“Buy local when possible and keep your money local!”

nearly impossible. all the stores carry the exact same stuff and selection is poor to boot. clothing and shoe selection sucks, and most of its low quality crap anyway. impossible to get a repair part for anything except autos. want a high-end anything? forget about buying it local. With the Internet, the whole world is now my store and I love it!!!

Amazon is by far NOT the lowest price out there anymore. Frankly, I have been shocked that by shopping around both online and locally that many varied products I need and buy often are cheaper elsewhere. Amazon is no longer the best price location, sometimes by a lot.

Exactly true. And often Amazon doesn’t even offer you the best price ON Amazon. You have to click a bunch and drill down to get it. Amazon is a scam basically.

Exclusive USPS sunday delivery for Amazon is an obvious place to start. USPS should not be playing favorites on delivery times.

given the complete collapse of ordinary mail due to email, online billing, autopay and direct deposit, sales flyers, unk mail and especally packages are the only things that have kept the USPS afloat ...
