We used to wonder: Are the Israelis really that good or are the arabs really that bad. The arabs are really that bad. Lots of capability wasted on them. The rest of the story is that a lot of our foreign military sales like this one are to be spares for the U.S. if the crap really hits the fan.
If you can’t go 1V3 and win, then you need to try a lot harder.
Another mistake might be to assume that Russian made equipment can be judged on the basis of how it has performed (poorly) in the Middle East, and then assuming it will do the same when Russians are operating it.
And the Russians also had export versions (like the T-72 tank) which were inferior to their domestic versions.
