Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been here...What matters is what you say while you’re here...

So how does somebody sign up in 1997 to be an "anti-Trump troll" in 2018?

No, Junior...I don’t think that it is “horse crap”...but, you, I am leaning towards that description.

Go away, and grow up!

The federal government began work Wednesday to replace a section of border wall in California, the first wall contract awarded in the Trump administration outside of eight prototypes that were built last year in San Diego.

Customs and Border Protection is replacing a little more than two miles in downtown Calexico, a sliver of the president’s plan for a “big, beautiful wall” with Mexico. A barrier built in the 1990s from recycled metal scraps and landing mat will be torn down for bollard-style posts that are 30 feet high, significantly taller than existing walls.

The administration is seeking $18 billion to extend the wall. Efforts to pay for it as part of a broader immigration package that would include granting legal status for people who came to the county as young children failed in the Senate last week.

In November, SWF Constructors of Omaha, Neb., won a contract for $18 million to replace the wall in Calexico, about 120 miles east of San Diego. It encompasses an area bisected by the New River, where smugglers are known to guide people through polluted waters. The project, which includes a bridge over the river, is expected to take 300 days.

Well it makes no difference what you call it, it does make a difference in what it really is.

This temporary metal barrier there putting up won’t be there to protect my children and my grandchildren from invasions.

The difference between a temporary barrier and a wall is huge.

Perhaps this is a distraction...Perhaps somewhere else out of sight of cameras, rising out of the desert, is the actual wall. Of course, someone hoisting themselves over a 30 foot fence with sharp palings is no picnic, and then there is that 30 foot fall.

You want too many words from him. What you want is not possible.

There is nothing impossible if you put your mind to it! If China can build a great wall then we can.. It is to keep the invaders out not in..

Too easy to climb with those slots in it. Saw the vermin scaling the other fences that are exactly like that one.. Pair of dikes in your pocket and the top wire is missing.. We Need a 50ft rounded top with camera’s embedded in it to see them coming on TV..

Fence and A Wall are two different things!

fence

A fence is a usually wooden or metal structure that encloses a yard, pasture, or other area. Many people with back yard swimming pools put fences around them to make sure small children don’t fall in.

wall (n.)

1. An upright structure of masonry, wood, plaster, or other building material serving to enclose, divide, or protect an area, especially a vertical construction forming an inner partition or exterior siding of a building.

2. A continuous structure of masonry or other material forming a rampart and built for defensive purposes. Often used in the plural.

4. (a) Something resembling a wall in appearance, function, or construction.

Here’s a youtube from a press conference today by CBP Acting Commissioner Ronald D. Vitiello, 21 minutes long. I would say that the Border Patrol know what they need, better than people like us who don’t work protecting the border. If he thinks a fence like this is good, and at any rate a LOT better than what they have, fine with me. Hopefully Congress will claw itself together and allow DHS and the BP enough money and freedom to do what they need to to 100%.

That is not like the awarded and built prototypes.

To everyone in general:

The RFPs for the multiple task order group went out last March. (I read and posted the paperwork and we had threads with many posts talking about the details at that time along with cost estimates and procedural discussions. This is as anticipated.)

Evaluations were made and the successful companies were awarded a place in the multiple award group and paid to build their example prototypes with design documents for full government review in the engineering phase and in the construction phase.

The prices are set for each type and as funds become available then in 90 to 180 days final drawings and award can be done for any segment on the entire US border.

As with all government contracts, funds have to be awarded specifically for the project by the United States Congress. President Trump has had his executive department branches get everything all ready, now Congress has to act.

I have been involved with federal construction projects, as well as many other types of construction projects, pricing, contracting, building and supervising them for 47 years until I retired. This is how it is done. It is a process. It is sometimes done on an emergency basis, but even that takes Congressional action.

I respect this site and have been involved with it for almost 20 years but it is starting to sound like a bunch of handwringing liberals not getting their way.

Everyone should suck it up. If you want to bash Trump, Democratic Underground and CNN discussion boards are wide open and waiting.

See my 77. The initial task order selections for contractors were made last year and each has already built it prototype. There was news coverage on them a month ago.

Thanks for your informed assessment.

In your view, could DoD go to the Corps of Engineers with some MILCON funding codes, and request some (or many) segments of border barrier, built to DHS specs, if the President said so?

I realize that is more of a funding than construction question, but what do you think?
