You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer for eternity. You have, however, spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?” the paper reports.
In response, Pope Francis is quoted as denying hell, in what the Vatican statement has referred to as a “reconstruction” of the conversation between the two men.
“They are not punished. Those who repent obtain God’s forgiveness and enter the rank of the souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent, and cannot therefore be forgiven, disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls,” the pope is reported as saying.

After one such papal interview with Scalfari in 2013, veteran Vatican analyst John L. Allen offered advice as to how these conversations should be read. He noted that though the words may not always be precise (since Scalfari does not record his conversations or take notes, but recreates them from memory), the content is generally trustworthy.
“Look, Italian journalism has many strengths, but a passion for factual accuracy is not among them. It is what it is,” Allen said.
“The takeaway is, the big picture is accurate,” he said. “I don’t think, in any fundamental way, he misrepresented the pope’s thought. But I also think it’s impossible to know where Francis ends and Scalfari begins, at the level of detail. I would just be very careful.

So Comrade Bergoglio now thinks that the church he has the keys to is really fighting against the “gates of something nonexistent?” The guy is sort of talking himself into the position of putting a “going out of business sale” sign on the vatican, isn’t he?
I see the pope, on this one, as an example of the stopped clock twice a day. The printing press brought us the reformation. The INTERNET has brought us a purification of Christian teaching in all denominations:

Yet there are those who see fit to call our President, POTUS-VSG, unstable and unwise. Pray tell which is the fisherman lost at sea?
I agree.
I became a Christian back in 1980. I was already a huge Reagan fan. But when I learned about the beast of revelation, I became at least a little “watchful” of any man that seemed to be “too” well liked. I got that way with Reagan, but he never rose to the popularity level necessary.
I’m that way now with Trump.
Either he will, like Reagan, become a little less successful, or less pleasing to conservatives, or he really will “save the world in its hour of need”. If the latter, I’ll be watching even closer.
But so far, I LOVE what’s going on.

Scalfari: “I try to understand the person I’m Interviewing, and after that, I write his answers in my own words.” Hmmmm.
Did anyone stop to ask,”If there is no hell, then what are we being saved from?” This statement puts all of salvation and any reason for the church to exist into question. Perhaps an immediate end to all church tax exemptions would clear the Pope’s head.
