Actually, I have seen Colbert claim--on air-- that he was a Sunday School teacher when he was interviewing someone.

That rocks me to my core. How does someone who claims to be a Christian sanction such blasphemy as part of "their" show?

Actually, Colbert LOVES claiming to be a Catholic, using it to insulate himself from charges he’s anti-Catholic. Like the self-hating Jew who can’t be anti-semitic.
