[OPINION] Turkey deals yet another blow to the anti-ISIL battle
Turkish Minute ^ | April 2, 2018 | Abdullah Bozkurt

The declaration of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, ISIS or Daesh by its Arabic acronym) as a “project terror organization” by the National Security Council (MGK), the nation’s top military and security institution, on March 28 is nothing but a reflection of a long-held view by Turkey’s Islamist rulers that has often downplayed the threat of religious extremism and radicalism in the 80-million-strong predominantly Sunni nation in a dangerous and unstable neighborhood.

The MGK statement, which is a recommendation, or rather an order in practice to all government agencies, reveals the troubling mindset among Turkey’s rulers. It was not a total surprise, though, for students of Turkish politics who have repeatedly observed how President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other government officials have used the same talking point to describe ISIL in their public speeches and commentaries. The MGK, which was chaired by Erdoğan, simply rubberstamped what the government and president think of ISIL, a move that will certainly undermine the fight against the militant jihadist group in Turkey and help their networks grow and act with impunity and immunity.

What Turkish officials mean by “project terror group” is that ISIL was actually created and supported by the West in general, or more specifically by the Americans, to smear Islam, keep Muslims busy, put countries on the defensive and use it as a pretext to advance the West’s political ambitions including changing the map and dynamics of the Middle East and beyond. In practice, this translates into a policy of seeing any hostile jihadist group that does not toe the line with the Erdoğan government’s policies as an enemy while cozying up to all other jihadist groups including al-Qaeda and ISIL factions that will serve to promote Turkish Islamist ambitions in Turkey’s immediate and distant neighborhood.

This is one of the most amazingly clear explanations of situation in Turkey related to Syria and the Region.

It is written by one of the better know and informed writers in Turkey who escaped before he was arrested and now writes clearly in exile.

It is a long but accurate article. Well worth the time to read it.

Now that the smoke has been blown away, we will have to deal with it.

Remember, tomorrow (soon over there) there will be a meeting in Ankara to plan the moves in the region. The meeting includes: Turkish, Russian, Iranian and Syrian leaders.

Yes, I noticed Trump’s message on twitter about it.

I have friends in Honduras, I was focused on Honduras when they removed their president, Mel Zelaya, for trying to defy the 1 time limit on running for president. Still have good friends there in the news business.

I admire how the people of Honduras stood up to pressure from Obama and did not reinstate the want to be Dictator.

There was a great picture related to that event.

It was named “Birds of a Feather”, showed 4 Parrots on a limb, labeled Castro, Chavez, Ortega and Obama. All chiming “AAwwwck Restore the Dictator in Honduras”.

I have the image but can no longer find it on the web.

Have not contacted my friends in Honduras yet concerning the Caravan.

Iran, Turkey, Russia, NoKo, China. Turkey has turned.

and also, from 2016; h/t nickcarraway, the plan to neuter Assad is proceeding but the Kurd bufferzone seems to now have been overridden by Turkey, who is intent on pushing the Kurds out in both Syria and Iraq:

Thanks for the observations.

“the Kurd bufferzone seems to now have been overridden by Turkey, who is intent on pushing the Kurds out in both Syria and Iraq:”

Turkey is intent on another Genocide. No other conclusion. There is no where for Kurds to escape to. Turkey kills them in Turkey. Then in Syria, and before dust settles wants to kill all of them in Syria. And if Assad is being forced out, they have no fall back position. Only place left is Iraq, but Iran is in control there (even has stranglehold on the KRG).

This is multi ethnic genocide. Something that Turkey has a great history of doing. And Russia partnering with the Great Evil to gain control of the strait and the oil and the pipeline to make EU dependent and to eventually crush them. Grand plan.

I agree with all you said, but be cautious about taking at face value the article at the first link. It comes from Ankara and there are no Journalists left in Turkey. Not any. All that are left in Turkey are government approved paid propagandists. I have seen Reuter’s articles before the are just like those from known propaganda sources in Turkey, all lies. So, if an article from Reuters and AP are source in Turkey, they are never to be believed.

Turkey, Iran nor Russia is interested in bringing “stability” into the Middle East.

*to gain control of the strait *

right u are. Also giving Iran access, and a shortcut to the Promised Land. That wall being built in Jordan just came into sharper focus.

I did not know about Jordan’s wall. But I can understand why.
