“Going to hit a lot of rural red states hard”

Really? China is the only customer out there? And sales to them will collapse because they can replace the goods with goods from....where? Argentina? Ukraine? The Punjab?

The ultimate result of China’s punitive tariff will be a small reduction in sales, if any. Trump’s tariff is protective as opposed to punitive: he is protecting domestic industries while they are merely trying to retaliate. They don’t HAVE the same domestic industries to match the American midwest.

Going to hit a lot of rural red states hard.

I listened to Gordon Chang speak about this in Breitbart the other day.

He said that if China purchases agricultural goods from another country, that country will just buy from the United States and pass it along, because they won't be able to produce enough on their own to meet the new demand.

The USA still gets their sales, and China might pay a slightly higher cost for it by purchasing through a "middleman" country now.

Also, Chang said that China already controls most of the pork production in the United States, so tariffs on pork products will just be China punishing China.
