It’s not hyperbole at all. Entire countries change on a dime because the populace was duped into choosing the wrong leader (Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Russia today, China, etc.) Choose a different leader and go the opposite direction.
President Obama corrupted this country beyond belief, and did so in just one term. Everything was in place by his second term including the racial divide that he personally engineered. Had we elected Clinton to follow him none of this would be being pursued, just as Lois Lerner’s efforts were swept under the rug after Obama’s first term.
No, it’s anything but hyperbole. An authoritarian government is our future if the left retakes the government now, especially given how far left they’ve moved in just the past four years or so.
Funny because I typed something very similar to that but decided to cut the paragraph. What I said was we are witnessing banana republic type behavior. We saw abuse of power by the IRS on a scale that would make Nixon blush. We saw collusion between the White House and the security apparatus to stifle dissent, smear the opposition and whitewash or sweep away criminal behavior at the highest levels of government.
We saw the FBI and the CIA working together with the WH and the DNC/HRC campaigns to throw an election and blaming their exposure on Russia, which is made more cynical by the fact that they actually did hire Russian spies (indirectly of course, via law firms and British spies) to manufacture the evidence they needed to smear Trump and justify Warrants to wiretap the Trump campaign team.
If not for the NSA director having a conscience we may never have learned about it from any of the other “17 intelligence agencies” which itself is too dark a thought for even Orwell to have contemplated.
Finally, angry that all their machinations were not enough to save their candidate, they conspire to use their police and prosecutorial powers to retaliate by any means possible. They conspire to either co-opt the POTUS with blackmail or entrap him with accusations of obstruction as a means to justify his eventual impeachment, and they launch an open-ended wide scale investigation against anyone who supported Trump, threatening them with financial ruin and threatening to prosecute their wives and children if they don’t plea guilty and “name names” of other people they should investigate.
The reason the American people are not up in arms over this is because the people who once universally condemned Joe McCarthy and the HUAC for persecuting citizens for their political beliefs are now supporting and encouraging these very same tactics, outing and blacklisting anyone who refuses to toe their line. The 4th estate is completely co-opted and no longer serves as a check against government overreach but instead serves mainly as its propaganda arm - and has been that way for a couple of decades now.
