Democrats mobilize to offset Supreme Court's expected ruling against unions......
Washington Examiner ^ | April 9,2018 | Sean Higgins

'Union-friendly' lawmakers in several states have been working to make it harder for public-sector employees to opt out of paying union dues, even if the Supreme Court allows them to.

Washington state adopted such a law last month, and similar efforts are under way in New York and New Jersey. In all three cases, the laws appear designed to undermine any additional rights workers could receive as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision in a case called Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The court’s ruling is expected in June.

"The state lawmakers are trying to counter the Supreme Court even before they make a decision in the Janus case. They are trying to limit the potential expansion of First Amendment rights the Supreme Court may give workers," said Vincent Vernuccio, senior fellow with the nonprofit Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

The Democrats don’t believe in freedom or liberty - but in dictatorial control over others. Oh no you can’t possibly require an ID when people vote but by God they better have an ID and pay their union dues (read: pay the DNC campaign fund) before they get a chance to work.

The party needs to be dissolved as the traitorous and treasonous scum they are.

Public Employee unions are an anathema to the entire concept of “public service.”

They exist for two reasons:

1) Let people work for the government for as little work as possible.
2) Enrich union bosses

#2 is the worst.

Seems like these laws would be invalidated by the Supreme Court. If not, it is just more headaches, requiring employees to actively quit. Shame on the government for scheming with unions to rip off employees.

Though I respect their right of association I see no reason for public sector workers to want or need a union. First of all in most major cities and states they have already negotiated pretty sweet labor policies covering hiring, firing, pensions, salaries, raises, vacation and sick time, maternity/paternity leave, health care, sexual harassment and discrimination complaints and more. These obligations by the government are not going to disappear if they dissolve their unions and are not likely to ever be renegotiated away barring bankruptcy/receivership of the political entity (in which case the union would be impotent anyway).

Second, unlike private sector employees the public sector employees have tons of negotiating leverage. The actions of public sector employees effect everyone in the city/state, and should they strike or disrupt services it will be immediately felt by the voters and necessarily be the lead story and front page news. The longer they disrupt government services the more pressure will build by the voters on the city/state leaders to concede. They don’t need a union to organize, and they inherently possess immense negotiating power. At any time they are free to affiliate and organize or form ad hoc groups to negotiate single-issue topics on their behalf if and when they feel it is needed. They do not need ongoing representation nor do they need to pay for ongoing representation.

As most on this website know, the main reason for the public sector unions is for the kickback. It is payola. It is a quid pro quo, in return for the concessions they have earned the politicians demand a kick back to help finance and outfit the political campaigns and lobbying interests of the party in power. They cannot ask each employee to send in campaign contributions, nor can they directly coerce the employees to get out the vote or show up at “spontaneous citizen protest rallies”. So they need the unions to act as straw man/bag man to collect and deliver the payola to the politicians. Of course the politicians want to force public sector employees to pay into the unions. That is the deal, and they need it to stick because it makes a significant contribution to their political strategies and survival.

I was acquainted with a Union Organizer for about 3 months who was attempting to organize a union within a company that constructed modular homes. They failed in the end as in the dead of night the company cleared out everything and moved it all to another state in one full swoop!...But I certainly learned how absolutely ‘little’ the Unions really care about the actual workers......only as a means of generating revenue from the workers....that’s it.

I can attest to that having known a Union Organizer...it's all about generating revenue.

My problem has always been with government unions. It’s oxymoronic and needs to end.

Headline should have read: Democrats restrict workers rights , attempt to thwart Supreme Court ruling on employees allowed to opt out of paying union dues.

They are trying to limit the potential expansion of First Amendment rights the Supreme Court may give workers," SCOTUS is not expanding workers rights. Rather SCOTUS would be giving back rights taken from the workers. Expansion would entail adding to rights they have currently. Since the Unions have removed the rights of the worker in specific circumstances this would not be an expansion but rather a giving back of those rights.

De-funding public service union campaign war chests is a wonderful idea that will not happen any time soon.
The Democrats will win 5/4 with John Roberts voting with them. Roberts has been blackmailed since his confirmation and the Democrats have done a very professional job of not overusing him so as not to draw attention to Roberts.

Roberts illegally “adopted” his two children. Both of them were born in Ireland which does not allow non-Irish citizens to adopt children.

When Roberts was up for confirmation the New York Times pointed this out as a way to kill his confirmation; but quickly stopped talking about it. They realized the value of having a blackmail-able Chief Justice in their pocket.

Roberts has been blackmailed into wrong votes on gay “marriage” and two cases sustaining Obamacare.

When Roberts’ “Obamacare is a tax” ruling came out. Justice Scalia was so shocked he publicly said, “I just spoke to him 45 mins ago and he said he was voting [the other way]”

The Democrats cannot afford to lose this case. They will blackmail Roberts again. They will not lose this case.

You missed two:

3) While allowing these govt monopolies to ‘legally’ kick-back time/material/$$ during elections.
4) All on the back of the taxpayer

I mean, talk about a conflict of interest: govt ‘represents’ The People (taxpayers) as well as being the ‘employer’. Govt, ‘representing’ 2 of the 3 sides in ‘negotiations’, uses its non-biz acct. practices to cut a deal.

Might wish to re-think that one. I’d say it’s my #4
