Mark Zuckerberg is sorry. The Facebook founder, who has apologized for privacy breaches is on a much larger stage than ever before.
In violation of Facebooks rules, the Trump-linked political consultancy schemed to get access to the data of 87 million users. This has made Facebook a scapegoat for Trumps victory on par with the Russians and James Comey (at least before the FBI director got fired and became a Trump adversary).
In 2012, Barack Obamas campaign did a less-underhanded version. Sasha Issenberg, wrote of how its targeted sharing protocols mined an Obama backers Facebook network in search of friends the campaign wanted to register, mobilize, or persuade.
No scandal ensued the Obama digital mavens were hailed as geniuses who changed campaigning forever.
To listen to Zuckerberg, Facebook is all about connectivity and openness he just happens to have made roughly $63 billion as the T-shirt-wearing champion of the global community.......
Its this pose that makes Facebook officials sound so shifty. In a rocky interview with The Today Show, Sheryl Sandberg was asked what product Facebook sells. Were selling the opportunity to connect with people, she said before catching herself, but its not for sale.
Something or other must be for sale, or Facebook is the first company to rocket to the top ranks of corporate America based on having no product or profit motive. Guthrie, persisting, stated that Facebook sweeps up data for the use of advertisers. Sandberg objected, We are not sweeping data. People are inputting data.
In the Today interview, Sandberg said, We were very idealistic and not rigorous enough. In his prepared testimony before a House committee, Zuckerberg declared, Facebook is an idealistic and optimistic company. For most of our existence, we focused on all the good that connecting people can bring.

I’m surprised that the rest of the world is surprised. OF COURSE they’re selling your data if you’re on Facebook. That’s been pretty commonly known for years. They don’t just get money from randomly placed ads.
Yeah; they don’t just offer this service because they really like us...
Barack Obamas campaign did a less-underhanded version. The wording of this sentence is proof this article is deliberate agenda-driven misinformation. I stopped reading.
I never had a Faceplant account and never will.
Facebook takes information you give them and does what it likes with it.
You may not like it, but the kind of ‘control’ some of you want THE GOVERNMENT to impose is the same control they would impose on FreeRepublic, once the TV cameras are off.
I am stunned at the number of Freepers who want THE GOVERNMENT to ‘do something’.
This is the exact kind of thing we don’t want.
Just don’t put anything on your Facebook account that you would not be willing to shout from a soapbox on a crowded street corner.
KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS COULD BE A STALKING HORSE CAMPAIGN TO GET MORE GOVERNMENT CONTROL OF THE INTERNET!
They want to implement the ‘net neutrality’ government controls that they could not get before.
‘Net Neutrality’ would make the internet ‘neutral’ the same way the the ‘Affordable Care Act’ made health care ‘affordable’.
“I never had a Faceplant account and never will.”
You must not own a business. I didn’t have one until my sister said it is where she always starts to look for someone or something. So I immediately set one up for my law practice, links to my law practice web site, gives my law practice contact info and has my photo. You can’t leave comments on it though because I set it up that way.
It is not just about what they do with personal data but how far do they go to manipulate a person to take action. Since I don’t have a FB account, I don’t know. Here is an article about what they are capable of.
What was the result...did you experience an increase in new business?
Yeah, people can find me more easily, find my office phone number.......it’s all about visibility.
I never had a Faceplant account and never will.
I always laugh when I see comments like that. The fact that they’re posting on FR proves they’ve already given as much info to the internet as they ever would to facebook. Once you go online any and everything you post or search is there forever, starting with your internet provider.
yep
Is your Facebook page open to non-members of Facebook?
Good question, how do I check?
And shutting down your FB account now doesn’t mean they don’t have and won’t still use the information you already gave them
Yep.
I don’t know, but you should. A number of small bizes I patronize have dropped their websites in favor of Facebook pages. I’m not a member. When I’ve had the privacy conversation with them, every single one has assured me that there was no risk to my privacy from my accessing their Facebook page. That, since I wasn’t a member, Facebook could not access any of my info.
If that is not the case, I hope they have good lawyers.
It claims to be free, but it slurps up all your information and sells it. Same for the other “free” social media honeypots.
That sentence is heavy with sarcasm.......
