I grew up in a household where both my parents smoked like chimneys. They both died horrible deaths thanks to Winstons (Mom) and Kents (Dad).Thankfully I never got into cigarettes and now have healthy lungs. And despite my having once been very accustomed to cigarette smoke I'm surprised by how disgusted I am by it today.

Oh that day you reach an age and realize that you grew up with a very unique smell from other kids is very eye-opening.

Both my parents were heavy smokers too. I remember my father sending me to the corner store to buy them, this was early 1970s and nobody batted an eye in those days about a small boy buying cigarettes. Fortunately, I never picked up on the habit though both my siblings were smoking by high school. I do "smoke" the occasional cigar when out with the guys but just keep the smoke in my mouth.

There was one disgusting experience I had. My father had a habit of using soda cans as an ashtray. He'd fill them halfway with water so he could douse the used cigarettes into them. Well you probably know where this is going. Yes, I had my soda next to his and picked up the wrong can!

Anyway, I hardly ever see anybody smoking anymore. It does seem to be dying out.

” grew up in a household where both my parents smoked like chimneys. They both died horrible deaths thanks to Winston”

My Mother smoked and died at 92; My uncle at 85 and my father at 89. Some people who never smoked get lung cancer. I’m not saying smoking is healthy, but for every horror story there is one that is not. The no smoking bandwagon for health is a red herring; the real reasons are controlling other people and deciding what the should do. Either we are for individual rights and responsibilities or not.
