When President Donald Trump threatened to send missiles at Syria — despite Russia's promises to counter-attack— all eyes turned towards the US Navy's sole destroyer in the region. But that may have been a trick.
Pundits openly scoffed at Trump's announcement of the strike days in advance, especially considering his criticism of Barack Obama for similar talk, but the actual strike appeared to go down well.
In April 2017, two US Navy destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean steamed into the region, let off 59 cruise missiles in response to suspected gas attacks by the Syrian government, and left unpunished and unpursued.

The ruse wasn’t the Donald Cook which had been severely compromised in the Black Sea mishap.
The ruse was the 1st 2 waves of Tomahawks.
The real weapons were fired in the last wave by the Aircraft.

Apparently it was the Syrians who fooled the US military into thinking a civilian laboratory being monitored regularly by the OPCW posed some kind of threat.

The ruse was that the bombers came from the east, where Russia and Iran have no radar.
Russia didn’t even turn on their S-400 and S-300 radar. They knew that if they tracked any of our inbound aircraft their radar would get cratered.

After all that Russian talk about protecting Syria and shooting down our missiles, Russia is the big loser in a region where saving face is extremely important. The message to all is clear, Russia cannot protect you if the US wants to inflict harm on you. And don’t forget for a second, China and North Korea were watching as well. Message sent. Message received.
