As tension mounts between Russia and the West, Syria’s brutal seven-year civil war has become an arena for world powers to display their advanced weaponry and ability to project their military might.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said his country had tested nearly 215 advanced weapons in Syria since his country directly intervened in the conflict to support Syrian President Bashar Assad in September 2015.
Russia has shown off both its Kalibr cruise missiles, launched from warships and submarines in the Mediterranean and Caspian Seas, and the ability of its Tu 160 bombers to fly an 8,000-mile strike round trip mission against Islamic State.
The United States, France and Britain last week launched 105 missiles on three on Syrian chemical weapons facilities without any aircraft entering Syrian air space or coming within range of its anti-air systems.
Turkey first opposed, and then welcomed the strikes, calling them an appropriate response to the chemical attack on the town of Douma on April 7.
The strikes were more comprehensive than the U.S. attack last year on a single Syrian chemical facility in which 59 Tomahawk missiles were fired at Al Shayrat airfield from two U.S. warships in the eastern Mediterranean.

And you are probably correct. That arms trade rolls on, meanwhile they are like Godzilla when it comes to stopping a citizen from freely buying a 38 snub.

Fully agree. Ever notice how it’s always us that must appease the Turks? They somehow never seem to be expected to show respect to American opinions, etc. They even caused the deaths of god only knows how many Americans when they impeded the Iraq invasion from the north.
As far as i know, kurds have never attacked any American interest.
Taking out islamic hordes is ok. Bombing in support of them is not.
And to save the USS Olympia, or build a few miles of wall, I would walk away from Syria, goat humpers and all and let nobody from there into America. That is our best protection rather than bombing the anthill.

Frankly I don’t care who bombs who or supports which side over there as long as it’s not here. Better they blow each other up then bring those battle fields on our soil.

Well actually their celebration was when just two to three hours after the US attacks Russia took control of Syria's airspace. What they ‘perceived from the ground view’ was the allied coalition leaving and assumed Russian planes were chasing them out. Further, once Trump had prior said "we're coming" it was reported in several areas in the battlefields that the Jihadi's were fleeing Syria in all directions just to get out, at which the Syrian Army took their places then.
So the Syrian army was also celebrating when Russia gained air superiority.......and they too 'viewed from the ground' that it was Russia chasing away the collition.
These are not very bright individuals.....all they see from the ground when they look up is identifying what planes are up there. Frankly it appears Russia stepped back while the attacks took place....being given a 6 hour heads up for their flights to get out of the airspace.
The Russians have been jamming small tactical surveillance drones that are far less capable than our strike drones like the MQ-9 Reaper. I have not heard of any instance of higher end strike and surveillance drones being disabled by Russians or anyone else.
You talked about Olympia and the USS Texas is sinking at its berth too. Seems they could spare some change in the budget to help out.

I know for a fact our UAV fleet is running missions all over the world right this minute, so it’s nonsense to say they’re “militarily useless.”
If you’re talking about using commercial- and consumer-grade drones, then, yes, they are useless b/c they are easily jammed and even taken over.
You must have come late to the discussion - we are talking about in the ME specifically Iraq and mostly Syria where the Russians have figured out how to jam US military drones so severely that they are mostly useless in that AREA - don’t have the link but the article was on FR.
As I stated above in post 33, that applied to small tactical surveillance drones, and they have demonstrated no capability to disable our larger more capable drones which continue to operate in the region. And it's not the first time, as they demonstrated this capability in Ukraine.
For some reason, there are freepers who believe anything Russian trolls post, like "Russia can disable any ship, aircraft or missile with their electronic 'super weapon', which they used against the USS Donald Cook". Yeah, that's the ticket. That's why none of our weapons work over there. Or they post stupid crap like "Syrian Air Defenses shot down all of our missiles" only to find out no SAM's were fired until well after the attack.
