Comey, in my opinion, is just like so many of the others who hold or have held public office these days - a narcissist. That word gets thrown around a lot, but without a doubt public office selects for these types of people. Another way to look at it is that narcissists self-select in the pursuit of public office.

If you have a need to be ‘special’ (beyond the normal mature desire to do your best and distinguish yourself), politics and the circles of government is one of the easiest and best ways to do it - particularly if your talent set includes being obsequious when necessary, deceitful, and having no problem screwing over other people. This is why there are so many Comeys and Hillarys in politics and those ‘professions’ linked to politics - like the media.
