The Last Cowboy at Pine Creek Ranch
American Policy Institute ^ | April 20, 2018 | Tom DeWeese

Watch this video and see for yourself the sad and frightening saga of the destruction of the old west – and the American dream.

Introduction by Tom DeWeese

Wayne Hage, Sr was a friend of mine, as was his second wife, the late Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth. Both were courageous leaders in the battle to save private property from the tyranny of government takings.

Wayne was one of the first to stand up and fight back against federal efforts to remove independent ranchers from the range lands. That fight is now best known through the desperate efforts of the Bundys. Years before, there was Wayne Hage. In similar fashion to what the Bundys would eventually face, Wayne endured outrageous harassment and intimidation from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). His fences were cut and livestock stolen. His life threatened. His ability to run the ranch made nearly impossible.

But Wayne Hage fought to his dying day to save the ranch and life style he loved so much; the independent American rancher taming the wild frontier, romanticized in so many old western movies. Now they were being reduced to victims of a corrupt and dangerous government out of control, determined to destroy an entire way of life in the name of “protecting the people’s land.”

Video is 8.5 minutes. The Trump Administration is not acting fast enough to stop the egregious behavior of the Forest Service & BLM.

Sessions is a Statist and not a fan of Personal Liberty for most Americans.

Many different acts of Congress play into how the federal lands are managed but the most important is the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976.

Other important acts are Public Range Lands Improvement Act of 1978; Endangered Species Act, NEPA(National Environmental Policy Act), Taylor Grazing Act.

Nowhere in any act of Congress has it ever been implied that Wayne Hage or Bundy owned a square inch of that land.

I may be wrong but most of the ranching/BLM land disputes appear to be escalating in Nevada. Any particular reason for this?

(I know there was the Oregon standoff)

This country rebelled against a King in a bloody revolution. Today it’s not one king but a thousands of Tyrants of every level of government. When does America finally get sick of it?

In Nevada 84.9 percent of the state’s land is owned by the
government. In 2015, the government owned 58,226,015.6 acres
of the approximately 70,000,000 total acres in Nevada. By
comparison, the government owns the least amount of land in
Rhode Island — 5,157 acres of the state’s 677,120 total acres.

Throughout the state, the land is divided between the Bureau
of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM),
Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Defense, Department of
Energy, Fish and Wildlife Services, Forest Service and
National Park Service.

I never expected much from Trump on Feral lands in the West. The agenda was to undo 0’s foolishness and not much else. Trump is a big city East coast gguy. My range he doesn’t get. I don’t get NYC and wouldn’t be caught dead there - not even to change planes.

Met Wayne and Helen about 20 years ago. They were great people.

They may not have owned the land, but they had water rights. And the use of public lands meant that they paid a fee & helped to manage those lands. That was one of the interesting little items that came out of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge take-over. They found Forest Service research studies that showed managed lands - where people were grazing cattle & removing debris - actually made better habitat for wild animals & birds.

And we all benefit from having cattle raised for the market. What better use to put those lands to? Most of us are not going out for nature walks on BLM land.

The crazy liberal environmentalist want all these millions of acres to sit idle without any return. These aired lands are not cost effective for supporting any other form of agriculture but grazing. The states need to take these lands back from the feds who don’t know or don’t care a wit about sound sound land stewardship.

I was interested in the statements about cattle hooves. Same as buffalo. Chewing cud? Same as buffalo. Cattle do not eat roots. The WSJ interview guy said what?
