Sessions told White House that Rosenstein’s firing could prompt his departure, too
Washington Post ^

Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently told the White House he might have to leave his job if President Trump fired his deputy, Rod J. Rosenstein, who oversees the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the exchange.

Sessions made his position known in a phone call to White House counsel Donald McGahn last weekend, as Trump’s fury at Rosenstein peaked after the deputy attorney general approved the FBI’s raid April 9 on the president’s personal attorney Michael Cohen.

As I said, time will tell. Unless you have some gift for clairvoyance. Besides, only a fool telegraphs his every next move.

Trump stood up for Cohen because Cohen is a loyal friend. Trump said nothing about Sessions’ pledge of loyalty to Rosenstein because Trump has already said Sessions betrayed him. Having already made his thoughts about the betrayal public, there was nothing more for Trump to say.

See post 258. Those posts are how Trump sets the record straight in the event of fake news.

I said last night that there would be no such tweets about the Sessions-Rosenstein story in WaPo. And there aren’t.

Don’t get your hopes up. Trump’s not firing anyone, least of all Rosenstein, especially not when the investigation is winding down into a nothing burger. The Dems have actually resorted to a lawsuit, they’re so desperate.

That is too stupid a post to warrant any more of a reply than it’s getting.

Just goes to proof Session is deep state RINO, completely sold on a one sided leftist monologue.

If this investigation were legally grounded trump should have a special console digging up the unspecified past of every other politician in Washington looking for a crime.

Perhaps Session would like a Team of FBI agents digging up the last 20 years of his past looking for something to nail him or anyone who chose to associated with him on?

Because if what Rosenstein did was legitimate that’s exactly what Trump needs to do.

Don’t get me wrong I’m in favor of that idea.
If you enter politics you should have a team of your rivals perpetually investigating you and your associates.

But that is against the law because its too resource intensive to investigate everyone and investigating only select people is unfair. The law requires instead evidence of a crime.

‘Perhaps Session would like a Team of FBI agents digging up the last 20 years of his past looking for something to nail him or anyone who chose to associated with him on?’

Great idea, but first let’s do McConnell. Second, since Ryan’s on the way out, let’s do Kevin McCarthy.

Third can be Sessions, followed in very close succession by Lindsey Graham and John McCain.

Sessions has all these morals EXCEPT ANY that respond to the lawlessness of the Russia plotters.

I barely knew anything about him before the election but he got such props on here.

There’s more to this story than we’re seeing.

Or a LOT of FReepers were wrong about him and I doubt that.

Compromised? Blackmailed?

Any ideas?

Jmo. I believe Sessions had perfected the technique of saying the right conservative things in the Senate where his lone vote never made a crucial difference. I.e.: it’s easy to pander to the base if you know that with 99 other votes, the Senate will always do right by the swamp.

Now Sessions is supposedly the person in charge of the DOJ (though of course Rosenstein actually runs it). Sessions doesn’t have 99 ‘right thinking,’ voters to hide behind and he’s a fish out of water. Too many years in the swamp-Senate made him constitutionally incapable of being a strong leader.

He solved the problem by recusing and putting the swamp in charge. Essentially he’s recreated the Senate at the DOJ. I.e.: he’s created a situation where his lone vote counts for nothing and the swamp always gets what it wants.

Sessions is 71, iirc, and had been a Senator for a very long time. It’s not unlikely that he saw the office of AG as the crowning apex of his career. Being a Senator had been such a smooth and rewarding ride for him, it’s quite possible that he didn’t realize how challenging and potentially unpopular being Trump’s AG would be.

I read a report that Sessions didn’t know Rosenstein was going to sic Mueller on Trump until it was a done deal. It’s another possibility that things spiraled quickly out of control for the timid, passive Sessions. He hangs on because he’s come to resent Trump’s criticisms and he may hope he can still create some kind of legacy for himself.

Jmo.
