The Democrats cheated their hearts out. They were 99% sure Hillary would win.
Trump won for the same reason Hillary lost and Cruz would have lost: the vast, massive wave of popular support that filled the arenas.
Your fairytale that Cruz couldn’t even pack 200 people into a small hall but was going to win against Hillary’s vast resources is out of touch with reality. Hillary and Cruz were unable to inspire voter enthusiasm; Trump had people standing in long lines for hours in horrible weather, only to be turned away after the venue filled up.
The respective levels of voter enthusiasm told the story. Only the blind can’t see it.
