Mitt Romney did not win the Utah Republican Party's nomination on Saturday, meaning he must compete in a June primary election as he seeks to replace retiring US Sen. Orrin Hatch.
After a wild and raucous day of voting at the Utah GOP convention, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee was unable to win the 60% that he needed to head to the November ballot unopposed. When none of the 12 candidates were able to cross that threshold, the party continued with successive rounds of caucus voting until one candidate reached 40%.
On the second round of voting, Utah state representative Mike Kennedy emerged in the lead with 50.88%. Romney came in a close second with 49.12%.
Romney and Kennedy will now compete in a primary set for June 26.
After the vote, Romney said he was looking forward to a primary race. "This is terrific for the people of Utah, and I really want to thank the delegates who stayed so late to give me the kind of boost that I got here today," Romney said, standing on the convention floor after the proceedings were adjourned. "We're going to have a good primary.

If he had fought half as hard as he did to get a total left-leaning, unaccomplished cypher like Kerry Healey the Lt Gov nomination in 2002 over an accomplished party activist in Jim Rappaport, he could’ve bounced the jug-eared jackass from the Presidency.

Hawley is down 4 below McCaskill in a new poll. I don’t feel 100% confident in that seat, but I know we’ll win Utah. That’s why I wish it was a solid conservative - not Romney. Romney said he doesn’t even know if he’ll endorse Trump in 2020 yet! I don’t know about this guy, though, is he another Never Trump guy?
I hope the voters in Utah have the good sense to defeat Mitt Romney in their upcoming Republican Senate Primary. Mitt Romney will be poison for Utah, he will become just another “Never Trumper” like Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, Ben Sasse and worst of all, John McCain.
McCain, now dying, the “Never Trumper” of all “Never Trumpers” does not have one ounce of decency and respect for the citizens and voters of Arizona, for he is unfit to continue as an operating Senator, because he is too sick & ill to be in Washington, DC where he is required to be, if he wants his vote to count & mean anything. His month after month absence denies the voters of Arizona a Senator, for McCain has no voice or meaning whatsoever.

I was living there under this aholes tenure at the time . The damage left behind from “Masscare” alone has reaked such fiscal havock and set the framework for the bama/sotoreo boondoggle called APPCA . As much as I hate the braindead electorate body in the state where I was raised , I still have a tad of empathy left so as even I would not wish the ass Romney back upon them .
