Got a church story to tell. There’s kind of a connection to this subject.

My friend Diane Feinstein, not particularly political, regretted missing Barb Bush’s funeral. I mentioned that she chose her procession song, which was “Joyful, Joyful”. So we both, on the way to Saturday mass, sang the song. We are both singers, of sorts, although Diane Feinstein is an accomplished soloist, once star of musicals up in Wilmington. I can carry a tune with the help of a bucket.

So we get to church and sit in our normal spot. There was room for one more person, so a young man comes up and indicates he would like to sit in the pew. Diane Feinstein exits the pew as I sit and he climbs over me.

To our surprise, the opening song was “Joyful, Joyful”!!

Another pretty song they sang yesterday, that I love, was “Jerusalem”.

So the entrance song begins and when Diane Feinstein and I sit together the whole church hears us. She is an accomplished soprano while I, ahem, sing a great alto.

But as the song began my knees buckled. I don’t know who this guy was next to us but he began to song and he made Robert Goulet sound out of tune.

His voice was loud, deep.....he outsang the entire church. The smile here is that Catholics are notorious for not singing like the protestants but once that guy started singing, don’t you know me and Diane Feinstein joined right in.

There we were, me singing alto....and I don’t sound half bad when motivated. There was friend Diane Feinstein singing louder than I ever heard and goodness, Robert Goulet to my right was inspired and he outsang the entire church.

Heh.

We did that for the entire mass. I could see people pointing to us, mostly the young man as he was kind of new. Me and Diane Feinstein already have a reputation and yes, we have people who go to great lengths to sit near us. Now, with Robert Goulet and poor me stuck in the middle of Goulet and Feinstein....we could have sang at Barbara Bush’s funeral.

After mass, upon exit from the church’s side door, there was a man with a sign “PLEASE HELP BY GIVING US MONEY!” his sign said. He had a little boy with him who had a bag of groceries.

There was a Knights of Columbus spaghetti dinner that night and best I can figure this guy snuck in. Nobody was giving the guy money because what a sort of shock this was.

Weird to exit church and find some guy, who I think was fake, fake, fake, begging for money, with a child as a prop.
