IPAs are considered “ale”, not “beer” legally and so aren’t restricted to the alcohol content that “beer” is.

The Belgian Trappist ales can be pretty strong.
The Rochefort “10” is about 11.3% ABV
The strongest I’ve had is Schorschbräu Schorschbock 57 @ 57% ABV

Once it hits a certain alcohol % its no longer considered beer as it moves up to a new taxing level of malt liquor I do not like the high alcohol beers. It seems to me that the higher alcohol content dulls the taste buds to the real flavor. I want my beer above 5% ABV but less than 7% ABV.
