~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi

keesler1

Keesler Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in Biloxi, a city in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. The base is named in honor of aviator 2d Lt Samuel Reeves Keesler, Jr., a Mississippi native killed in France during the First World War. The base is home of Headquarters, Second Air Force (2 AF) and the 81st Training Wing (81 TW) of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC).

The Second Air Force mission is to provide the best-trainined, combat-ready forces. To carry out this mission, Second Air Force manages all operational aspects of nearly 2,700 active training courses taught to approximately 150,000 students annually in technical training, basic military training, medical and distance learning courses. Training operations across Second Air Force range from intelligence to computer operations to space and missile operations and maintenance.

Keesler AFB is also the home of the 85th Engineering Installation Squadron (EIS), of the 688th Cyberspace Wing (CW), which is the Air Force's only active duty EIS. The almost 200 AFSPC Airmen and Civilians of the 85th EIS can design, engineer, and install the full range of C&I equipment and components typically found at a fixed site and other specialty systems unique to expeditionary forces.

They are also the only organization in the DoD to provide specialized engineering services such as electromagnetic hazard and interference investigations and High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) protection. During contingencies, the 85th EIS can deliver their unique skills to the warfighter within 72 hours.

The 403rd Wing is the largest flying organization at Keesler, and the only Air Force Reserve Command wing in Mississippi. With a military manning authorization of more than 1,400 reservists, including 250 full-time air reserve technicians, the wing performs dual missions: tactical airlift support during peace- and war-time contingencies, and aerial weather reconnaissance supporting the Department of Commerce.

Indeed a lot of stuff can be hidden. Fortunately most of ours are shorthairs. Pandy has the longest, being a Persian, but Gabrielle and Shannon aren’t far behind. Don’t know where their long hair came from since both parents are shorthairs. Mr. Shags has semi-long hair.
With so many, we’re lucky to have so few with long hair.

Whew, allergies have BEEN raging here lately. The cars are green with pollen .... or were until I backed them out of the carports into the rain yesterday. With all the trees sprouting their leaves at once, pollen abounds! ah-CHOOOO

It’s the awful sinus pressure that’s driving me nuts.
It’s right over my right eye.
Arrgh!

I am SOOOOOOOO bummed out about this.
Rolandeaus is closing it’s doors forever on May 11th this year.
I’m heartbroken!
It was far and away, the very BEST restaurant in the twin cities!
The prime rib was to die for!
Mike and I are going to try and eat there several times before they close.
*sniff*

It was kid of a little tradition to take you guys there on your last day here.
WAAAA!!!

Good evening, radu....should I send the ark?

It’s supposed to start raining tonight and off and on all week. High wind warnings for the whole area all day long tomorrow. UGH!! I hate the high winds.

Yuk! Just reading about that pollen had me sneezing! Really! LOL!

We don’t have pollen to that extent, thank goodness, but there are things that have us all dripping...stealth pollen I guess. :)

Is it still raining there? I think it has been at DH all evening!

LOL! We don’t need an ark, fortunately, but other parts of the state could probably use one. They showed some flooded areas on the news this evening and it was pretty bad.

Dang the luck with those strong winds. We dealt with them yesterday and have a little tree debris to pick up. Hope it doesn’t get that bad there tomorrow. If there’s anything on your deck that will blow off, get it inside tonight so you won’t have to chase it down.

Poor little mousie! Kitties sure aren’t kind to birds or mice, that’s for sure! It’s their tiger instinct, I guess, because heaven knows, mine sure aren’t hungry and I doubt if Tigermaus is either. At least you know he’ll take care of any problem that comes up. LOL!

I don’t sneeze all that much, just have to deal with constant drainage and feeling like there’s sand in my eyes.
We think it’s bothering us more this year because of the wheat pollinating.

But it’s part of springtime in this area and we’re used to it. I’d rather have this to deal with while seeing everything come back to life than have bitter cold temps.

It stopped raining here a while ago. We really didn’t get much rain today like they’ve been getting up around DH.
That reminds me, I need to go out to empty the rain gauge.
