This whole DNA thing is going to make a lot of criminals have sleepless nights, as they should.

Authoritative government overreach is here... I know, I know, don’t commit a crime and I won’t have to worry that my brothers dna is on file somewhere

Glad they got the perp, but the data harvesting techniques are scary.

Is it the 14th Amendment that restricts data collection on the citizens to some 10-year interval.... it’s a brave new world.

So we all trust the FBI when they say they found somebody’s DNA at a crime scene?

"wanting to know more about their family background"

There may be some things that are best left buried.

Oh, are you related to Ted Bundy or maybe the BTK killer?

Gacie a kin of yours?

Which means the people who sent their DNA in just shared it with the world. Stupid.

Has he denied or confirmed his identity yet?
Has he denied or confirmed that he committed these crimes yet? If this is the right man, he is extremely clever, so they need to have lots of corroborating evidence.

I believe I read that the culprit used to sneak into people’s home prior to raping or murdering the victim. He would find the victim’s available guns and empty those guns of any bullets or shells. I’d never heard of such diabolic behavior before.

If he is the one. I would be very interested to know how he stopped his compulsion to do these crimes, assuming that he ever did fully stop.

And this is exactly why my DNA will never be sent to any of these sites. I’ve done nothing wrong - but what stops them from selling my DNA to insurance companies to deny me coverage because of genetic propensity for illness?

So much for privacy if you have your DNA tested. Or someone you are related to does.

Nothing prevents this from being used to track down political dissidents. Anyone who thinks the state won’t eventually abuse their power is delusional.

This is a huge step forward in crime fighting. It is a stroke of genius. Hats off to those who developed this plan from and old street cop.

With all the doom and gloom paranoid and exaggerated thinking on this thread I wonder if FReepers have a high rate of depression.
