Sociapths rarely cause pause in those around them. Ted Bundy, J Wayne Gacy and others cruised under the public awareness. Gacy was a clown for kids birthday Parties. Ted Bundy attracted girls in flocks. Charles Manson ran a commune. Until they are caught and placed in direct scrutiny, no one notices. Fairly sobering and worrisome. There are many out there and no one knows how to predict which ones will act out their fantasy’s.
Singer Debbie Harry from The Blondies, says she is pretty sure she got picked up one night by Ted Bundy, but managed to get away. She was walking home about 2am, in New York, early 70’s. A car kept circling around asking to give her a lift. She kept saying no. After a while, when she could not catch a taxi, Debbie got in his car.
She was struck that there were no door handles on the passenger side. All windows rolled up except for a small crack, and the interior was striped bare. She also noticed the driver had “an incredibly bad smell to him’.
I looked down, there were no door handles, the inside of the car was stripped. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
I wiggled my arm out of the window and pulled the door handle from the outside. I don’t know how I did it, but I got out.

John Wayne Gacy was a politically connected man and I think his day gig was construction contracting, not being a clown. That was a kink in and of itself.
Charles Manson was a habitual criminal who tried to make it as a singer/songwriter in the land of the freaks (first SF then LA) and roamed in the circle of influence with Neil Young and the Beach Boys. Reputedly the Manson Family even participated in some of the Hollywood celeb orgies of the swinging 60s. He let his coven know of his plans for violence. It was an era of outlaw culture celebrated in the popular media, whether it was Hell Angels and other black leather bikers, Black Panthers, or other Communist revolutionaries building bombs, carrying guns, robbing banks, shooting cops, and causing riots.
Wasn’t Ted Bundy a lawyer (who’d studied hypnosis and other talents of mind control)?
