The name rings a bell but I can’t think of what I might have heard by them.
This one’s smooth and nice.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HIT
THE HOLY MACKEREL: BITTER HONEYYears ago I did the songbook of Paul Williams at the Canteen. Back when he and Roger Nichols were a song writing team, they decided that the best way to get coverage was to sing the songs themselves. Thus was created Roger Nichols and Friends at Herb Alperts A&M Records. Paul Williams sang background in these sessions.
Then Paul went to Warner Brothers where the label had enough faith in him to team him with producer Richard Perry, who had produced Streisand, among many others. This recording from 1968 is the first time that Paul Williams was heard in a lead vocal role. Catch the string and horn arrangement, especially the solo violin that Perry added to this session. Brilliant production from a professional.

MIKE KENNEDY: LOUISIANAKennedy was best known as the lead singer of Los Bravos, which had experienced one hit in 1966 and another in 1968. His high tenor voice was often mistaken for Gene Pitney. This record was a hit in the UK in 1972 and got some air play in the US but never really caught on. Its a great song with an imaginative production.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HIT
TONY CHRISTIE: AMARILLOThis 1972 hit from the UK was written by Neil Sedaka, whose career had gone into eclipse during the British Invasion. The original title was, Is This the Way to Pensacola? but Neil figured out that Amarillo sounded better.
