Parents of boy with rare degenerative brain disease say they are heartbroken after his death in hospital
A 23-month-old boy with a rare degenerative brain disease, who was at the centre of a protracted legal battle, has died, his parents have said.
Alfie Evans died at Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Announcing the news on Facebook on Saturday, his parents, Kate James and Thomas Evans, said: “Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30am. We are heart broken. Thank you everyone for all your support.”

I've been chastised by another FReeper that he was NOT murdered. In fact, he even went so far as to tell me that Alfie got wonderful care in a 1st class hospital. He simply died from his disease. Haven't responded the way I want to because I'll be banned forever!!! Can't believe a FReeper would, in any way, sanction this murder.
No matter how low your opinion is of Alfie Evans, you can’t change the facts. The truth is, Alfie’s disease did not prevent him from living. He was very much alive. He would have eventually died from his disease, but that was not a good reason to kill him. He was not a useless eater. He was a child of God, with as much right to live as anyone else. Even you.

In this month's issue of Personality and Individual Differences, a study was published(link is external) that confirms what we all suspected: Internet trolls are horrible people.
Let's start by getting our definitions straight: An Internet troll is someone who comes into a discussion and posts comments designed to upset or disrupt the conversation. Often, in fact, it seems like there is no real purpose behind their comments except to upset everyone else involved. Trolls will lie, exaggerate, and offend to get a response.
What kind of person would do this? Some Canadian researchers decided to find out.
They conducted two online studies with over 1,200 people, giving personality tests to each subject along with a survey about their Internet commenting behavior. They were looking for evidence that linked trolling with the "Dark Tetrad" of personality traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism.
"... the associations between sadism and GAIT (Global Assessment of Internet Trolling) scores were so strong that it might be said that online trolls are prototypical everyday sadists." [emphasis added]
Trolls truly enjoy making you feel bad. To quote the authors once more (because this is a truly quotable article): "Both trolls and sadists feel sadistic glee at the distress of others. Sadists just want to have fun ... and the Internet is their playground!"
The next time you encounter a troll online, remember:
1.These trolls are some truly difficult people.
2.It is your suffering that brings them pleasure, so the best thing you can do is ignore them.

He proved he didn't need the ventilator. All he needed was nutrition, hydration and a little whiff of O2 in the nasal cannula. Everybody gets that.
His parents wanted to take him home. They could have done that a year ago and it wouldn't have cost Alder Hey Hospital a farthing.
They didn't want high tech. They wanted high touch. But the System said, "No. Here he stays. You can't have him til he's dead."
They humiliated his poor parents over and over again. No second opinion. No treatment option. Travel ban. What did they think he was, a terrorist? In the last days they cut off his nutrition/hydration and obtained his demise by starvation/dehydration. THAT was planned. THAT was not inevitable.
There's absolutely no justification for that.

As we pro-life people know, food and water are not extraordinary means - they are ordinary means. Shame on their socialized medicine; this is murder.
Part of the problem is that they aren’t citizens. They’re subjects.
They’ve bought into the idea that some lives are worth more than others. A healthy royal is worth the most. An unhealthy commoner is worth the least. Anyone who costs more than they produce is a useless eater, and must be “allowed to die with dignity.”
The phrase “brain dead” has replaced “useless eater,” but it serves the same purpose. “Life unworthy” has been replaced by “futile care,” and “born terminal.” They’ve retained the phrase “incompatible with life.” They’re as arrogant as the convicted Nazis, who insisted the rest of the world is just too stupid to understand the beauty of their ideas.
Alfie’s Dad made some comments about some of the hospital employees disliking them and avoiding them, because they were different. I don’t know if he ever explained in what way they are different, but I think they have a completely different view of and interaction with the world around them. The hospital employees, and most British subjects, are fully vested in the utilitarian view of life, and Alfie’s parents aren’t. That manifests itself in every aspect of daily life. So much of what we say and do is influenced by our views on the value of life. Alfie’s parents are nothing like the hospital employees who turned corners and darted into storage rooms to avoid them. And it goes beyond a disagreement over medical care.
Well stated. I’ve been so upset about these threads about Alfie. Had one Freeper basically tell me that I didn’t know anything and that Alfie wasn’t murdered but just died from his disease after being treated by “top-notch, dedicated” physicians in a “top of the line hospital”. It made me sick that a FReeper could agree with the treatment that Alfie received or, should I say, didn’t receive!
You are so right. I’ve even seen comments urging Alfie’s parents to divert the donations that were given for his care and funeral, to the hospital, to thank them for what they did to Alfie. Sick!
