It would be great to see NR go next, though I imagine they already have enough dark money to keep them going.

National Review has been big on squelching any comment even remotely pro-Trump. They banned me for simply saying, “A choice between Hillary and Trump is easy - Trump!” Shortly after that, they changed the entire system for commenting.

Not exactly a site that wants true grass-roots comments! After all, what happens if the grass roots don’t hate Trump? Where would that leave NRO?

Yeah, exactly. And it’s like, okay, Jonah, so you were all principled and stuff and held to the Buckley tradition of decorum and whatever, but for crying out loud, look at what this warrior Trump is up against. Can we not overlook his stylistic sins and instead be cognizant of the wall of pure evil (I don’t know what to call it but evil) that he’s facing down pretty heroically?

And it’s not just Jonah but the whole Nation Review crowd, with a few exceptions. I had a subscription to the print version up until 7 or 8 years ago. I love(d) Nation Review but they are so mired in utter wrongness that I can’t stand to read them any more. It’s a complete tragedy. In the abstract sense it is fascinating because you realize that smart people are capable of getting it totally wrong. Which ultimately validates the wisdom of our founders in wanting to avoid concentrated power.

I never went there much but after the election there was much chatter about the site.

I didn't mind their anti-Trump venom; I can deal with strong opinions.

What I found abhorrent was how they banned anyone who thoughtfully supported Trump or disagreed with their views.

It was fascinating to see their comment numbers crash.

The last time I checked in (and that was a long time ago) they were down to 10-20 hardcore commenters who were as rabid as the authors.

It's their site and they can run it as they pleased but the way they treated anyone who disagreed with them and the viciousness of their banning campaign led to their doom.

Aren’t these the same people who were threatening “purges” of anyone in the Media, like Sean Hannity, who support Trump before the 2016 election?

Good bye to bad rubbish. They will not be missed

I have no problem with passionate debate during the primaries. When people like Eric “the Buffoon” Erickson and those at Red State attempted to undermined Trump and elect Hillary. they went far over a line that can not be walked back. That they continue to daily try to undermine Trump they now crossed the line from “disagreement” to political treason.

Erickson, and others supposed “Conservatives”, who out of nothing more then petulance, ego and childish spite, are actively providing political PR for enemies of everything Conservatives are suppose to stand for have earned no quarter from Conservatives. Never Trumpers are no longer a “friend an ally” who we disagree with but are now active enemies that needs to be defeated and politically destroyed

ERICK ERICKSON: I think that if Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, the Republican Party ceases to be the party that I was an elected representative of so there is going to have to be the ground work for a new political party in the country that represents people who typically have been Republican voters in the past.

Best obituary for RedState's suicide by stupidity I have read

By Yesthathallen

RedState created their own insular anti-Trump hate-bubble and they suffocated.

I suffered through many eras.

But eventually they flushed down.

Still taking the courageous stand against growth, prosperity, the decimation of ISIS, record low unemployment, dwindling numbers of refugees from countries that hate us, massive cuts in government regulations, and a meeting between the presidents of the two Koreas.

“The whole never-Trumper thing really drives home the notion of human fallibility.”

i think what’s really at play is that all of these self-proclaimed “true” conservatives can make a living only by attacking something, particularly the left. They opposed Trump because they don’t actually want anyone to neuter the left, their favorite target, and once Trump won, they kept on attacking him because Trump has made it essentially pointless to attack the left, but it’s all backfired for them.

It’s really only about the money for pretty much ALL pundits, and Trump’s victory and subsequent implementation of much of the conservative agenda that these fake conservatives have pretend-promoted for decades took the wind out of their sails and emptied their rice bowl ...

Trump exposed them for what they really are: nothing more than a pack of mercenary fake conservative jackals ...

“I didn’t wait to be banned. I just stopped reading anything they wrote.”

not me. i was quickly banned and THEN I stopped reading.

similar result though, they ran everybody off who wasn’t virulently anti-Trump, and as Trump had success after success in quickly implementing an ACTUAL conservative agenda, there were too few anti-trumpers left to support the likes of a redstate.

Are you kidding? Trump is in the fight of his life against the left. True conservatives still have a perfect enemy in the left, which is pulling out all the stops to oppose Trump (and us). I would think a truly conservative pundit would thrive in this environment. And likewise I would expect the fakes (or the confused) to struggle, which is exactly what’s happening to National Review (which my spellcheck misspelled in my earlier post). It’s obvious that they are dying a slow, or not so slow, death because they got out of step with real conservatives. Unfortunately for them, real conservatives don’t care about what they have to say anymore. They are wrong and no one wants to listen to wrongness. Thus I conclude that pundits like Jonahs’ drift into wrongness must be sincere, because it certainly isn’t making them any money. I just think they screwed up in their thinking. They got it wrong, which is a perfectly human thing to do.

Yeah, it has been really sad to see Jonah Goldberg be so out to sea in his opinion of Trump. At one time, he was in my top three with VDH and Mark Steyn.

I had already tired of his writing somewhat as his column (or weekly email? both?) had too many stupid pop culture jokes and he wouldn't stop talking about his sofa or couch, it seemed. Then he became a never-Trumper and I don't read him at all now.

How are these supposedly smart people not understanding the simple fact that a Hillary victory would have been the end of our country. It would have been irretrievably lost as millions of illegals would be made into citizens who can vote for Democrats who would never lose any more national elections. And the left would have had a Supreme Court majority.

Red State = Salem Media

the same people who feature Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt on radio.

You lasted a long time. I dropped my NR subscription back during Bush I when it became obvious that they were cheerleading the open borders/illegal alien invasion that was destroying California.
