European powers reaffirm support for Iran nuclear deal

The leaders of Britain, France and Germany reaffirmed their support for the existing nuclear deal with Iran, which is “the best way of neutralizing the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran,” according to a statement released Sunday by the prime minister’s office in London.

Prime Minister Theresa May spoke by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel over the weekend, and the three leaders agreed that the best way forward was to maintain the existing agreement, which was signed in 2015.

But US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to scupper the deal and his next chance to do so would be in May. With an eye towards that, the European leaders also agreed to work towards achieving additional “important elements.”

“Our priority as an international community remained preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon,” said the statement from 10 Downing Street, referring to the three European leaders. “They agreed that there were important elements that the deal does not cover but which we need to address — including ballistic missiles, what happens when the deal expires, and Iran’s destabilizing regional activity,” it continued. …

My vote is for PDJT to end US involvement in this sordid, treasonous so called agreement.

What a horrible joke it is on Western civilization and all those civilized nations which have had to cope with Iranian acts of aggression via their Red Guard and others.

Trump should have told Macron and his gal pal Merkel that he is not only scrapping the Iran deal but forget about NATO. You are on your own.

Because it ties the USA’s hands and allows them oodles of short-term mega-euros from commerce with Iran.

They want to be on their own. If that happens, the real plans for the EU come out in the open.

Submit treaty to the Senate, which is the constitutional route on all foreign agreements. Case closed.

This is kind of fake news. The EU and Macron are trying to come up with a bunch of amendments to the original agreement to agree with Trump.

The media prefer to twist the tale.

True about the content. But at least the headline is accurate.

I think Europe has reached the "on your own" conclusion. I think they're hoping that the next President will reverse Trump's course, so the President should withdraw from NATO and make if official.

Iran would have to agree to the amendments and that ain't gonna happen.

Iran says it won't agree with the amendments....And that THEY will pull out of the agreement.

Since the EU and France agree there should be amendments....it's really their call if they want to appease Iran.

Trump is right....The agreement says that Iran can do anything they want regarding nukes after 10 years.

Trump says "that's nuts" and he's absolutely right. Who the hell proposed the 10 year deal bit.

I believe Netanyahu was the first to bring up the ridiculousness of the 10 years.

The muslim terrorists invading their countries aren’t killing them off fast enough.

They want the Iranian muslims to have nuclear bombs to speed up the process.
