Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has been more of a team player since losing the 2016 GOP presidential primary to Donald Trump, is reemerging as an agitator in the GOP conference.
Cruz is questioning Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells (R-Ky.) strategy on the GOP's 2018 agenda, which is to steer clear of partisan bills that dont have Democratic support.
Cruz, who is up for reelection this year and faces a spirited challenger in Rep. Beto ORourke (D), is leading a group of restive conservatives who want to vote on a budget resolution that would set up a special process known as reconciliation to allow the GOP to pass ambitious legislation, such as an ObamaCare repeal, with a simple majority.
We have 254 days until Jan. 3, 2019. I believe we need to do everything humanly possible to deliver on the promises we made to voters and to score major substantive victories for the American people while we have majorities in both houses and a Republican president, Cruz said last week.
If we do that, we maximize the chances of keeping majorities in both houses because were enacting policies that make a real and positive difference in peoples lives, he added.
Cruz worries the time for passing lasting legislative reforms might be limited given the widespread perception that Democrats have a good chance of winning back the House next year. Those concerns are shared by many conservatives in the House, who communicate regularly with Cruz.
Cruz gave a presentation to the GOP conference last week in an attempt to rally colleagues behind the idea of passing a budget with reconciliation instructions.
Without reconciliation, it takes 60 votes to pass controversial legislation through the Senate.
McConnell, however, shot the idea down, according to two senators.

It was the first time in a while that Cruz second-guessed McConnells leadership in front of the entire GOP conference, although colleagues said he did it respectfully.
We need to keep going, he said. We need to finish the job at ObamaCare. We need to keep simplifying the tax code and lowering taxes. We need to keep lifting regulation so we see more jobs at higher wages for working men and women.
Its possible Cruzs efforts to tout an ambitious 2018 agenda is intended to spur on conservatives hell need to come to the polls this fall.
Trump sold out when he signed McConnell’s budget.
McConnell you are a sorry assed, worthless, spineless, sack of crap.
Agitate all you can Ted.
“Leader McConnell is not supportive enough of President Trump.”
Said no Senator ever.
“Its possible Cruzs efforts to tout an ambitious 2018 agenda is intended to spur on conservatives hell need to come to the polls this fall. “
Just like he was all hard ass in 2015.
Republicans are outnumbered by Republicants.
Ted is headed into another election this fall. Hes a team player when its HIS team.
I believe the best possible solution is for the two of them to fight it out physically.
With flamethrowers and grenades.
In a hermetically sealed nine foot by nine foot bunker.
At the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
Not much mystery as to McConnell’s strategery.
Most of it is well documented in the democrat’s and Never-Trumper’s playbooks.
Cruz needs to do something hard and ask McConnell about the 20 ships the Chou family bought, while Elaine is Transportation Secretary.
We already heard that Chou’s father bequeathed the McConnells’ with 25 million dollars early this year.
What is going on with them, the Chou Family Machine and the Chinese wind fall?
Cruz has McConnell’s number, and so do we.
He isn’t spineless. He is tough and wily. He doesn’t work for us, its important to note. He has another master.
Isn’t Ted Cruz satan incarnate, spawn of some uncle/grandpa Munster, a fake American, married to a financial insider/globalist, a never-Trumper whose kids and wife despise him?
Free Republic is absolutely no place to publish anything that could possibly be construed as supportive of Ted “Lyin’ Ted” Cruz.
The Cruznadian is persona non-grata on FR.
Go Ted! He’s right about Ditch. Ditch completely lacks principles and backbone.
For someone who is supposedly a Tump fan, you sure do like your Turtle more than you like your Donald
