LYNCHBURG GOP U.S. Senate candidate Nick Freitas in a debate on Thursday called out rival Corey Stewarts campaign for making ethnic jokes about his name. Stewart responded that if a little name-calling got under Freitas skin, he would be thrashed by Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine should he be the GOP nominee in the general election.
The scrap came toward the end of a lively debate at Liberty University featuring Stewart, Freitas and minister E.W. Jackson of Chesapeake, who are competing in the June 12 primary. The candidates discussed foreign policy, defended President Donald Trump and the tax cut he signed last year, and called for an end to the special counsels investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

My daughter came over to me one day and asked, Daddy,,,,,
Guys who hide behind their women bug me.
I know Steward has been a backstabber of Trump. He’s a wus.
Disregard, I was thinking of Cory Gardner of Colorado. I don’t have a clue about the Virginia “Corey”.
Can’t read the link. What did he call him?
Next up, he’ll call him the Freito Bandito.
Freitas sounds like something more on the dollar menu at Taco Bell

Well, I guess we know where G Allens campaign manager/advisor ended up.
Allen shot himself in the foot over macaca AND trying to compare James Webb with John F’n Kerry.
I ‘liked’ Stewart but don’t think he is electable in the current Virginia BUT he probably be better than ANYTHING the RNC foists upon us
That’s BULL SHIT! Corey Stewart has been 100% behind Trump since 2015!
I should have read this post before blowing up...Corey Stewart is a great guy.
Allen’s problem wasn’t the Macaca word...it was the constant pusillanimous apologizing that followed it. He’s not a man.
The stupid is all over the landscape in this situation. The candidate who sounded like an adult probably doesn’t stand a chance.
Glad to hear about Virginia Corey!
Stewart was in a weak position before this stupid remark.
And now I gotta think he’s totally unelectable.
(But at least he didn’t say that the GOP black candidate had an un-Virginian name, in spite of the fact that a guy named “Jackson” probably should run only in Tennessee.)
Freitas is the Bush League Republican.
Stewart is on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.
Thanks. That a pretty dumb comment to make.
Stewart said a racial slur to him.
From what other posters told me, he said that Freitas’ name sounded like an item on the Taco Bell menu. Not a racial slur, but making fun of his ethnicity, which is not good for a candidate.
I have known several un-related people named Freitas-——a Portugese name and not uncommon in Southeast MA and Rhode Island.
